I'm reading a book about the English seaside which mentions Westward Ho! a 1961 tourist film plugging the virtues of holidays in the Westcountry. It's all rather twee. Torquay appears after about six minutes: www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=74977

I know Westward Ho very well as I used to deliver there every week once for a company I worked for before Toolfix. I come out of Bideford very often on the roundabout on the A39 soI feel a visit is coming on soon and a quick shooting session with my camera Cockington sure looks far better back then than it does today. Westward Ho is where the council wanted to move Bideford football club, but I'm not sure of the site they were proposing.

Don't mean to be pedantic Dave but you ought to know that famous pub quiz question - the only place name in Britain to end with an exclamation mark?

Theres a fair few Torquay specific videos on that site aswell if you search for them. There's one that's about ten minutes long extolling the benefits of Torquay and comparing it to the French Riviera in a way that only a 60's promotional film could do. Well worth searching for it if you're interested it also references things like the Torbay to Britanny ferry, I have no clue how long it lasted mind.
It's called Vive Torquay if I remember correctly.
