The Russians knew the outcome 24 hours before it was voted for, how does that work? Did anyone notice that these two countries, Russia and Qatar have massive reserves of oil which = money, a sniff into a few bank accounts should reveal the truth of the matter. Pulling out of FIFA a long with some other countries of influence in football should shit them up enough to stop screwing around, maybe a new World Football League should be started and ban any country from entering it if they have any ties with FIFA!

Speaking of how much money England has put into world football recently. It's huge sums. Our 2006 bid was a shambles because we were over arrogant and didn't put in the effect of courting backers. So over the past four or so years we've made a massive effort to get involved in Africa and Asia funding football workshops and training and sending coaches out there. The idea was that the FA would gain some respect and thanks from the world football community.
We even sent the entire England national team over to Trinidad and Tobago for a meaningless end of season friendly to try and appease Jack Warner. Admittedly this was kowtowing to his corruption but we took the view that we had to do these things to get the support of FIFA.
Now Jack Warner said he'd support England's bid after that friendly and continued to support it right up until recently when he switched sides probably because of our media's exposure of his and FIFA's corruption. However he got a hell of a lot out of messing us around and it's just indicative of FIFA's corruption.
Interestingly had Warner stayed on side we may well have pushed Russia to the wire. Warner controls 3 votes on the ExComm and these were promised to England until very recently. That would have given us 5 votes and would have edged out Belgium/Holland in the first round. In this case we were expected to pick up Belgium/Holland's votes, which would have given us 9 and enough to edge out Spain/Portugal in the next round. Then it would have all come down to which out of Russia and England managed to pick up the most of Spain-Portugal's voters in the final round. Which we may well have won.
Why didn't this happen? basically because Warner switched sides at the last moment, despite Cameron meeting him and our bidding team heavily lobbying him. Looking at the voting numbers it looks like he switched to supporting Russia and that he'd made this decision at least by the beginning of the week, thus why Putin never showed up.
It's a pretty sickening representation of the corruption within FIFA. I agree with Andy Anson the voting procedure needs to be reformed and more people need to have a say to make it fair. Somewhat like the IOC (although they have their issues aswell). As far as I'm concerned every national FA should have a vote, thats 208 voters rather than the 22/24 voters we have now. It'd be much fairer.

to me the only fair way is the actual world cup winners hold the next world cup,ok brazil, germany italy etc may get it more for a while, but it will encourage nations to develope their own world beaters. This inadequate insane voting in which ever format it is used isnt working at all.No arguments then, winner gets the final next time, which still sadly means we wont get it,we didnt exactly show ourselves as world beaters in south africa did we

Well done Boris!! not many people agree with you normally but i think the nation is behind you today. Boris has withdrawn the offer of free accomodation in the Dorchester Hotel during the Olympics 2012 from Sepp Blatter and the FIFA delegates. too right! perhaps we can have new sports of tarring and feathering, flaming torch running and pitchfork tossing. now who shall we get to run that?

"Well done Boris"? Seems like a rather pathetic attempt at a sweetner/bribe to me. Putin's cash will probably pay for their stay at the Dorchester in any event! We should tell them to stick their World Cup and organise our own instead.

Most foreign journalists found the arrogance by the English shocking. They deserve the WC because they're the inventors of football. First licking FIFA's boots and now shouting injustice has been done to them. It's all bloody politics and a country shouldn't want to be involved in such a scam. That also applies for the Dutch.

It may have come across as arrogance but I think even Sepp Blatter acknowledged at the bid that football is very much part of the English history and cultural heritage and would have contributed to an immense event here maybe more so than some other countries such as one that sounds like something you get up your nose . I also think that the English bid was recognised as one of the better ones, even by FIFA assessments and yet we received only one out of twenty one votes from foreign voting members - less than 5%!!! It wasn't the result that grates but the manner of the defeat and that we basically were s**t upon from a great height by certain voting delegates! You are right in that it is all politics and the process is badly flawed if even basic objectivity cannot be shown as what then is the point in spending a shed load of cash in following this process? Of course there will be various perks involved which is quite common in business and will have been done by all the bidders. As long as this stops short of outright bribes, which is a completely different kettle of fish, and is made completely transparent then that should be fine. However, if you are completely shat upon and lied to, do they then really deserve to have these perks?

The English bid was the best, you've got all necessary facilities already in place and the English are very passionate about football. All true, but that last phrase doesn't mean you just get it. Looking at the plain facts and it's the English that come out best. Russia has nothing in place, they have to built everything. But they will succeed, no doubt about it.
The English got done by the FIFA. How do you explain the fact that in the first round the Holland/Belgium bid got 4 votes and in the 2nd round they only got 2 votes. They were used to eliminate the English at the very first opportunity.
It's not that difficult. Everyone can make reports about stadiums, infrastructure etc. etc. Get all the results together and at the bottom line everyone can see which country is best suited for organizing such a big event. The only 'problem' is that a country has to make sure that it's got all the facilities in place before the voting instead of building them after the voting.
