On .com now www.torquayunited.com/page/Preview/0,,10445~2146945,00.html It seems everyone missed the fact that Benyon was booked during Tuesdays night game for celebrating his goal. That was his fifth yellow card for the season and the club learned today that Benyon will be banned for one match. Reading the report Bucks is not very happy that players get booked for celebrating goals and it does seem a bit mad to me to book players for doing it. I can understand why players get booked for taking their shirts off or going over to the away or home fans ( depending on if we were home or away) to incite them. Can anyone who was at the game remember Benyons celebration after he scored? what did he do that might have deserved a booking?

He jumped over the rugby type barrier(see C.H. photo's) and celebrated with the fans. I believe other players joined him the goal appeared to have quite a significance with him. Standard FA practice to caution for this behavior (unfortunately for us ) as is a caution for the removal of shirts. The game itself.....sublime !!

What a shit decision that just goes to highlight how out of touch the powers that be are with the real fans. They seem to want a passionless game with no celebrating, no slide tackles, where we all sit in plastic lego stands and clap our hands. By my reckoning if what Benyon did was so bad that it warranted a booking then 3 other players should have joined him. Why just single one out for going over the hoarding? If its a bookable offence book the surely you would need to book them all. Take a look for yourself... news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_3/9226090.stmBy the way all 3 goals are class - as is Paul Bastard's celebration for the 2nd!!

They have loads of other silly rules: After a player has received attention from a bad tackle etc he has to come off the field of play and the perpetrator stays on. They give the 'keeper the option of taking his kick from what ever side he feels like, slowing the game down and wasting time. The offside rule. Allowing officials to run the line (especially at Plainmoor on the Popside) who have never seen a match before, understand what football is, fail the Specsavers eye test prior to the game and not have the balls to raise their flag for a shirt pull. Bah

But, of course, it's easy to be distracted and depends on your viewpoint. Prior to the kick-off I did think Elliot was well pumped-up for the game - in the nicest possible way - which was understandable given he was born in High Wycombe. I assume he grew up there?

Once you jump over the barriers and leave the field of play these days, you are just asking for a booking. We all remember that famous Man U player who leaped over the barrier, mind you I don't think Elliot was looking to kick anyone.
Its a silly booking, but then how many times do we still see players take off their shirt after scoring a goal? they know they are going to get booked and it might just be when they are already on four yellow cards.
I do agree Phil that the rule when a player gets injured after being fouled, has to go off if he received any treatment on the pitch is just pure madness.
The team with the player who was fouled ends up temporally with only ten men and it might just be a defender who was needed to be in his box having to get his head on the ball to clear it.
Talking about leaving the field of play, I'm surprised Nico gets away with going through the gaps in the wall on the popside to take long throw-ins. He starts his run almost from the first popside step and I would have thought it was against the rules.
What about having a towel to wipe the ball dry before he throws it in, should that be allowed?

What about having a towel to wipe the ball dry before he throws it in, should that be allowed? In my view no but I don't think towels are mentioned in the rules. Whilst it's great to have a player who can lob the ball from a throw in to the far post everybody should not have to wait around waiting for him to towel the ball down before he throws it. If I was the referee I would book him for time wasting (having warned him first of course).

Not everyone - it was in my match report! And after a few pints!! Unfortunate, and a silly rule, but them is the rules and every player should know them. Bucks says it's a chance for someone else to step up, so let's hope Mr Kee takes his chance.

Jose got himself and his players bollocked by the authorities for some soft deliberate yellow cards to top his players up so they miss a nothing game and are clear for the important one coming up, maybe a smart move by Elliot, miss the cup match and then be clear to play all the league games coming up to X-mas. Somehow I don`t think that was the case though!

Like insisting on referees and linesmen...
If, as youngsters, we could do without them in the park and make our own sensible decisions why can't grown-up players do the same.
Get rid of the officials I say!

It was my son Mark who hugged Elliot after the clincher. If the referee applies the letter of the law he should also have booked Zebroski and Stevens for they also joined in.
Having said all that I agree that there should be an element of common sense. If you run to the opposition fans then a card might be appropriate but Tuesday night's was ridiculous.
Best away performance I have seen since the promotion season win at Cheltenham.

Get rid of the officials I say! Think you're on to something here. Would love it if one Saturday afternoon, just before all the players had to be in for tea, someone shouted "next goal wins". The football league would be a better place with rush/pop in goalies, the captains picking teams in the centre circle before kick off (possibly by numbers), and jumpers for goal posts. The only potential problem would be if the kid whose ball it is got fed up and went home.
