Well I believe he is sorting out what role he will play at the club, when they all return from their break

He should have gone long long time ago - hence his nickname Konference Kev - very mediocre player- you play against better players at CHAOS

Putting all arguments as to the merits of Kevin Hill aside, I would argue that any utility player at the level at which OUR club plies it's trade would have some short comings in any given role but that would be outweighed by his adaptability and willingness to carry out any function within the team plan as set out by the manager. Hilly can play literally in any part of the team and put in a reasonable performance................accepted, he's no Tim Sills when he's played up front, inferior to Chris Hargreaves in midfield, less physically imposing than our regular centre backs, and a little behind Kevin Nicholls Nicholson! as a fullback. But he represents adequate cover in all those positions, and should be respected for that................and I emphasize the word respect - for you are showing him little of that and a man who has spent his entire professional career at OUR club and holds the appearance record deserves bucket loads of that!

Kevin Nicholls? Have we signed anther player?
Hilly is a far better option as a utility player than some of the supposed "flair" fringe players we tried out last season.

Looking at the players that we have for midfield now if Kevin was to sign I cant see him getting close to the team, exept as cover at left back.I do hope he does take up a role with the club though

Sure he will be here next season, may be helping Mr Compton even.

I wasnt saying that he couldnt do a job or deserve a chance its just that he found his chances limited last season.Looking at how strong our midfield is looking now its possible that Adams or even Hargreave wont be starters. On paper it does look like our strongest midfield since 03/04

I think that it is going to be increasingly hard for Kevin to get near the team, With the youth setup in place with both Matt & Compo, there is proberly no call for another coach type person. maybe the contract offered to Kevin was put together so that he may be given the option to find another team. Either way, its great in this age of throwaway football that we have witnessed a player who has remained loyal for an entire career. Power to Kevin. Where ever he may be next season.

Reading you post Sean, you seem to suggest, that we may have seem the last of Kevin. No matter what, he has been a great servant to our club, at a time when loyalty in football is often a dirty word

Have to agree with you on this one Sean. Whilst I take the point from Merse about his flexibility for me he has not been quite the same player since our sojourn in League 1. Great bloke fantastic loyalty and like you I wish him every success next year whether that be with us or elsewhere

Merse You know how lucky he has been with his lack of ability Surely the only reason he has been at OUR club is because nobody else has come in for him. Have won a few bets on him over the years though based on his lack of ability Anyway - lets move on Am also pleased that Hockley has gone and if Woods goes what can I moan about.

Merse You know how lucky he has been with his lack of abilitySurely the only reason he has been at OUR club is because nobody else has come in for him. If ability alone were the criteria of making up a squad, then we would be looking at a team of Mark Lorams, Mick O'Briens and (for a modern day example) Ronaldinhos. But without the correct attitude, aptitude, willingness to compromise and adapt. Without the hard work ethic, the confidence of your team mates and the trust of the manager; you're nothing. Loram couldn't be trusted and was fortunate to be playing for the club during an awful period when ability alone was at a premium- therefore he almost single handedly provided that vital part of the team chemistry. Had he been around now, we might well have seen the unedifying sight of him being slung out on his ear for his dreadful off field way of life. O'Brien had the skill levels and ego of a giant, but the heart of a pea and thus was out of the full time game before his mid twenties and Ronaldinho's prioritising partying and maintaining a celebrity lifestyle over the basic core elements of the professional footballer, added to his excessive (for any club) wage demands make him a finished article well before thirty. Kevin Hill ticks all the right boxes for a manager at OUR level and indeed the two levels we were at previously. Why, he even offered to fore go a wage rise one summer in favour of an two year contract instead of the customary one he had always been offered such is the genuine intent of the man to deliver value for money and reliability.
