Last May my Sky+ box died and refused to reset. We bit the bullet and had Sky+ HD and now 6 months later that has died aswell One minute watching Humf with the girls and the next a nice polite message saying no signal. having tried several resets and checking all cables still nothing. Can't even access the 80% of recorded items. Looks like we will lose it all again and the helpful sky assistant said we will have to wait until next Wednesday for an engineer I have ordered a signal finder from Screwfix which will arrive tomorrow and hopfully that will tell me the signal has gone due to too much rain (yes I know it isn't possible in wales ) or the dish has moved. either way I hope it is a dish problem rather another blooming box gone Managed to tune the DVB tuner, so at least we have something to watch.

Mate send the signal finder back, I`ll lend you my meter. Also all sky+ HD boxes are faulty from new, I must have fitted hundreds and they all have to go back because the hard drives are shit, Sky rushed the boxes out before soak testing becasue they are greedy bastards and wanted to cash in. I`ll bet you have got signal, did the helpful Sky lady ask you some questions and get you to go through some of your menu like `services then select option 4` or anything like that? Are you in the bay because I don`t mind coming round to have a look for you? I bet she did the old `hold the back up button in for tens seconds till the screen goes black with white writing on it` rutine, this does not cure a knackered hard drive. The whole time you have no Sky you will be charged for having it, another phone call threatening a move to Virgin will get you a discount!

I don`t mind coming round to have a look for you? Enjoy your trip to Wales Aussie. Bit grim this time of year I've heard, bit like the outback but not quite so many crocodiles!

But I thought Sky were a brilliant organisation, whose employees all dress smartly and are driven by the hunger of the profit incentive. My BBC channels are all working perfectly Stuart, even during the industrial action ;D

Yes indeed, as emphasised by Aussie who points out that they will provide a discount to their customers when the service isn't up to scratch in order not to lose custom to their rivals.
My only dealings with the BBC yesterday were to attempt to listen to two radio programmes...both were cancelled due to industrial action. The big difference of course is that they will tell me to go whistle when I request a discount on my licence fee due to poor service.

Until all their rivals are squeezed out of the game that is. It's a good job you weren't trying to tune in with Stuartb's Sky box then isn't it?

Enjoy your trip to Wales Aussie. Bit grim this time of year I've heard, bit like the outback but not quite so many crocodiles! Oh bugger, thought he had a gaff down here somewhere! I do have a gaff down in the Bay but mainly for use football home weekends. Thanks for the offer Aussie, it's the thought that counts My signal finder found no signal!! signal is great from my normal aerial but sky dish loose and the cable looks knackered. Oh well, lets see what the engineer does next wednesday. thank goodness I started insurance cover for all of it a couple of months ago

Oh well, lets see what the engineer does next wednesday. thank goodness I started insurance cover for all of it a couple of months ago Your signal finder says there is no signal, did you measure this at the dish or at the back of the sky box? When the engineer comes to sort it out insist he replace the cable anyway, it`s only a ten minute job for an experienced engineer and will extend the life of your system considerably. You want new connectors (crimp connectors not those cheap nasty screw on ones) and amalgamation tape on all connectors to properly weather proof the joints, there should only be two joints on the cable one at each end, obviously he wont need to malgy to inside connector at the back of the Sky box. If your dish is old forcefully suggest that it needs replacing as your engineer friend said it could be warped and in poor condition, and finally a new LNB just to make sure everything is in top condition. If he argues about the dish being replaced then suggest that a new dish fastened up correctly would not lose signal like this one has, a cup of tea helps the engineers decide what to do and biscuits usually work a treat!

It did in the end thanks dave. they came and played with the cables which lasted for less than 24 hrs. they then came back and replaced the dish and admitted that they didn't have one in the van the previous day. all fine until yesterday when the ice played it up but then the thaw brought it back again
