Few who were there will ever forget the game between Torquay and Gillingham on 8 May 1993 - a game with absolutely nothing hanging on it.
In the months building up to the game it seemed to be becoming increasingly inevitable that this would be a dramatic last day shootout with the loser losing all.
Somehow, the Gulls and the Gills both managed to squeeze far enough ahead of Halifax to be safe before the last day - in our case courtesy of Duane Darby's backside.
Gillingham fans turned up in massive numbers - having booked early thinking it could be their last League game.
There was a surreal carnival atmosphere on a sunny day with all four sides of the ground singing "Staying up, staying up, staying up".
Fans of both sides invaded the pitch at the end of the game, slapping eachother on the back and swapping scarves and shirts.
What a fantastic day - but how different would the atmosphere have been if Halifax had picked up a couple more points?

For such a "nothing game" it was such a memorable day and both sets of supporters played their part. I recall the fans mingling in such a great atmosphere on the pitch after the match (which I recall us winning 2-1?). Happy Days.
I remember Neil Warnock giving a speech just around the old directors' area and it was still hoped by many supporters that he would stay - but I think realistically it was never going to happen. I still have a big respect for that fantastic turn-around - although he "only" had to bring-in Lee Barrow, Kevin Blackwell, Mark Sale (I think?) and Don O (John Muir and Gary Chapman weren't great and didn't feature much?) as he got a lot out of the players already at the club. He also brought-in a young mercurial winger from Stourport Swifts who of course became magnificent multi-tasker and son-in-law to the chairman "Dickie Divot" that we all loved so much!

It appears the white charger has been kidnapped, so I'll use another appropriate signature character! Crap playing surface, Cobblers at the bottom of the table and The Gills unable to win away for a whole season..........what's changed in nigh on two decades between then and last Saturday? Well quite a lot actually if you look at Priestfield, Sixfields and Plainmoor; but now I know why some sad fat old git tried pitifully in Redfearn Avenue on Saturday to offer me an ancient Torquay United shirt that no longer fitted him (nor would it have me either) on the off chance that I possessed a Gills top from 1993...................I can imagine him sitting on the coach home once all the euphoria had died down thinking to himself "now why the feck did I do that?"
