Note the references to the Manchester United plane crash at Munich in this 1958 programme.
Also mention of Les Anstey who we've previously encountered as a regular reserve player. Reading between the lines, it appears he was a professional but still didn't manage a Football League appearance even in a poor season where there were many injuries and illnesses within the squad.

Reading between the lines..... I never tire of reading the Reading reading pun. It's interesting to read that the main explanation of the contrast between the success of 1956/57 and the failure of 1957/58 was the very good luck with injuries in the former and the very bad luck with injuries in the latter season. I suppose that is a common theme with all clubs - particularly those with smaller budgets than their rivals. Fingers crossed for this season.
