There’s a few paragraphs in this programme that deserve closer inspection: the arrival of Larry Baxter (he was to play 180 league and cup matches); a further comment about the benefits of the removal of Entertainments Tax; a short commentary on the financial advantages provided by “local pools” to the non-league game.
A footballer rejecting an offer from Torquay to sign for Boston even before the financial flexibility of the Steve Evans era? (although he did return from the “wilderness” to enjoy a good spell at Lincoln). And one of ours getting more money at a Kent League club? That was probably Norman Lloyd who went to Sittingbourne (with Larry Baxter himself eventually ending up at Deal Town). The bit about “more in ready cash for far less work” might be rather ingenious as those players would surely have had a day job alongside the football.
