When the news broke that a probe returned to the surface with a hand written note stuck on it saying that after 17 days trapped under ground, the 33 miners were all still alive seemed like a miracle and yet hard to believe. Back then it was being stated it would take until Christmas to get them out of the mine but you felt at least they would have real hope now and would be getting food etc to keep them alive until they could be rescued.
What an amazing rescue it has been so far, to bore a shaft right down to them and to built a craft that would bring them to the surface and I watched TV in the small hours last night and watched the engineers sticking in small polls into that rescue craft and hitting them with hammers and I wondered if the craft was ever going to be able to do its job.
I was up early this morning and watched as many miners come to the surface as I could before I had to go out and after just watching number 30 come out and cuddle his wife I’m hoping and praying by the time I wake up in the morning the remaining three with be rescued and the five rescuers who so bravely went down to carry out what needed to be done down in the mine are also back up on the surface.
I don’t think in my whole life time has there ever been such and amazing rescue and those miners have shown just how they are such special people for even being able to work in a mine and the incredible courage and resolve they have shown all the time they have been trapped underground.
A very big well done to all those who have worked so hard to make this rescue happen as not only as it been so wonderful to see one by one these miners come to the surface, but it has been so moving to watch their family members hug and kiss them knowing they are now safe when there would have been a time they feared they would never see them again.
There is so much doom and gloom in our world right now and this wonderful story of hope and the will to succeed has to be the greatest story of the decade if not the last centaury.
