Earlier in the week rather than watch the Jibba-Jabba Pointless Shield Trophy match against Swindon I made the short trip down the road in West London to Harrow Borough to watch their Isthmian Premier League game with Aveley of Essex.
Only 101 turned up (including the players I think) to rattle around what is a half decent little ground. It holds 3,070 when full. Both ends are uncovered and have car parks behind them. I thought in was quite funny to see the driver start up the Aveley minibus and drive around the corner flag with headlights on full beam about 5 minutes near the end.
Both sides of the ground are pretty much covered. One side has a covered terrace with 3 or 4 quite steep terrace steps, the other side has a smart and farily modern cantilvered all seater stand and it's flanked by a couple of covered terraces.
The teams walked out with the usual PA booming voice shouting "let's welcome tonight's teams....'arrow Borough and Aveley". Cue complete silence. Not even a hand clap or a whisper of encouragement.
I have to say that I feel more at home at Wealdstone just down the road. Harrow's support consists mainly of the local freakshow and a few hardy old boys who've seen better days.
The game finished 2-1 to Aveley who were the better side. They have a young left winger called Billings who's quite good.
The highlight for me was during receiving treatment for a stomach injury the Harrow right back reassured the Harrow Physio that he was alright by saying "I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm gonna f**king get him"
Photos.
"Too slow Harrow, Too slow" was all this bloke said in the second half.
