Yes It is sad when any we see the fall Of someone we have seen as some kind Of hero, but we still have to look at the part any hero has played in his own downfall. Merse explains how Gazza saw two young friends die and before he was 14 years Of age. Very sad and something you would never forget, but you would have to deal with and move on.
I do not believe this was any reason why Gazza started drinking, It is my view that Is was a life style choice and not some
anaesthetic to cushion emotional pain. Drinking may make It seem It has gone away, while you are drunk, but when you wake up In the morning, nothing has changed, the pain or the problem Is still there.
Merse also said that Gazza suffered from Acute Attention Deficiency Syndrome, well I do have my views on that illness and was shocked to hear so much about It on the G.Vine Show last week. You see I really question If It really Is an illness, when I was young, there were kids, who were described as hyper active, kids who got bored very easily, yet that never got some fancy label, or had to live on drugs.
I did not know that in this country we have thousands Of kids as young as five years old, put on to daily drugs, to treat this so called Acute Attention Deficiency. One story was from a Nanny who looked after a five year old all week. Spending time with him, during the week he was a normal young boy. At weekends under the care Of his own parents, who were not prepared to give him an Of their time, he was a different child.
Taken to the doctors and then put on drugs, the nanny said that a boy who was once full Of life, ended up a dull and robot like child, but at least his parents had a peaceful weekend. My own daughter would have let my grandson, be put on these drugs, yes he needs the extra time, yes he gets fed up with things far to easily, but the answer Is not drugs.
Maybe Its just the fault Of the world we now live In, where parents, having to both work and come home worn out, do not have the time, to give to their kids, when I was a kid, only your Dad ever went to work.
The effects drink has on you over along time as Merse said do happen and I'm sure to break the hold drink has over anyone must be very hard. The difference Is that Gazza would find there would be plenty Of people all willing to help him, unlike so many ordinary people, who often find, there Is no one when they need help. So If he wanted to sort his life out, then with the help that would be available, he surly could.
Harrogategull said that maybe he just can not handle life with out the game he loves, well as the star he was, there would have always been a way, for him to be still a big part Of the game. Not now, because he sure could not be seen as any role model, when he could have given so much to football and inspired so many young footballers.
There are plenty Of young players, who could have been better than Gazza, but due to some injury out on the pitch, never got the chance to become a superstar, Gazza had It and for me ruined his image and he can only blame himself.
George Best was named on this thread, my grandfather was also called George Best, well know for so many years In Newton, ( he died before I was born)as he owned a fish store In the market. Even more well know as a top local referee and that Is how he Is remembered.
George was a great player, sadly got hooked on the drinking, yet given a second chance, that you Or I would never get, by having a new liver, did not do what he should have done and stopped drinking and look after the liver, that someone who had died made available to him.
So to conclude, yes It Is sad, but you need to look at the part any fallen hero has played in their downfall, they will always deserve another chance, but there comes a time, when If they keep failing to take the hand that Is trying to help, then you have to let go.
