Martin Allen has transfer listed 6 players at Cheltenam. These do not include Alex Russell and I can't say Im suprised that he wants to keep him.
I never really had any hope of a Russell return anyway because I could'nt see Allen sheding out one of the best players in, what is essentially, a struggling team.
Still though, Russell is not getting any younger and, it could be, that come the end of this season, Allen will decide not to keep him on for the final year of his two year contract.
I still think that there is a chance that Russell will come back here to finish his career but for now at least, he will certainly be staying at Cheltenham.

I doubt Russell would want to take a step backwards even if he was released at the end of the season. He would still be capable of holding down a league club contract rather than stepping down to the pub league. Even if he did he would go to Cambridge before us.

Why oh why is there a constant outcry for AR to return to the club? Yes, we all know that he will return in a few decades from now on a two year contract, when he couldn't hit a cow in the c**t with a musket!!! Please, please please, let's move on!!!

I think our needs are a bit greater than for yet ANOTHER midfielder right now.

I'm not hoping to sign ANYONE at the moment - the last two matches have been very encouraging (and that is coming from a self confessed pessimist!).
I wouldn't be too disappointed to see Dsane (although his efforts last night were excellent, - his rustiness could be forgiven due to lack of pre-season and recent action) move-on - along with Brough. I don't feel that there is any need to get-in players at the moment (although a proven keeper would be most welcome for a month). There is talk of the "right back" but Mansell has been brilliant for the last two matches and I don't see the point of forcing him back into the midfield (wwhere I can't see him displacing the current personnel) or onto the bench when he is on such excellent form.
Good luck to Russ wherever he goes (or stays, as is more likely?) but I'm happy to build with the players that are starting to come good. Hargreaves looked as good a partnership I've seen in central midfield for a while - if they can keep this up then we will really have a season to enjoy.
