The cream always rises to the top.
I first started using dotnet from an internet cafe in Victoria, London, in 1996. It was just after I left the bay and was the ONLY way to keep up with all things TUFC and, as it transpired, was a decent way to keep up with old friends as well.
I used to spend hour upon hour on there - mostly lurking, but occasionally to swap memories and posts with the other members.
I once got into an argument with Kipper, a regular poster back in the day and still a contributor now. It was something and nothing - a 'cyber argument', but Mervo took the time to contact me and ask if we had any 'previous' and to see if there was anything he could do to help smooth things out.
As it happened, I bumped into Kipper on a train station platform somewhere or other after a match and we had a decent chat. We've done the same at several other stations over the years and never had a crossed word.
I haven't been able to bring myself to look at dotnet for a very long time. The bickering, childishness and oneupmanship on that site seemed to be the absolute antithesis of what Mervo tried to avoid.
What Dave R has done, is reproduce a feeling of unity that we used to share on dotnet and for that I thank him and love him, although, disappointingly, I am still yet to shake his hand in person.
Like I said Dave, the cream always rises to the top. You are a top bloke, running a top site, just like Mervo, and unlike anyone else.
Keep it going mate - we need you. x
