www.torquayunited.net is now a wonderful read in which Mervo replies to many posts placed on here in the last few days... Great Stuff!! Take a look..... That's eighteen carat Mervo at his best, and NOBODY reading this should eschew the opportunity to read him! I could have sworn the former Football League linesman D.V. Scoble was his dad though, but I guess he would know better than I! So "Whatever Happened To The Likely Lad" Biggins in the light of what Mervo tells us then? Got himself into a bit of a "Porridge" and his relaunch has gone a bit "Lukewarm" I feel. "Some Mothers' Do 'Ave 'Em"

I hope Mervo doesn't mind me pinching this quote from dot.net but I couldn't let it go. The reason, or rather reasons, for there are two?
Well the Exmouth Amateurs ground was only a hundred yards or so from my home back in the early seventies and I used to play football on the pitch with two good mates of mine from school. I loved the old 'floodlights' sat on wooden poles and which looked ancient and rickety even then... This place started off my enthusiasm for football, and I'm sure those 'lights' kick-started my grounds fetish!
Not only that, but one day I found some old golf clubs under my parents bed and would climb over the old iron gate into the ground and practise hitting a five-iron until the blisters burst. A five-iron was the club as I knew I could hit it far enough to go from one side of the ground to the other without overshooting onto the site of the old dock railway. It was on this patch of grass that I therefore started on a game that was to become so important to me over the years and from which, although I don't play so much, still gives me the chance to socialise with good friends and get a decent walk now and then!
So thanks go to your father for giving me the place to hit those first balls... and score that first goal!
The ground has now been made thinner by the widening of the old railway track and making it into the road down to the 'new' dockside developement and is used by next-doors Exmouth Rugby Club as a second pitch.
And the 'floodlights' are still there!

A legendary post from Mervo - nothing less than I would have expected after a good 10 years or so of enjoying what he had to say on .net. Definately worth waiting for!
I'm so glad the history of the original site is safe and sound and there to enjoy for years to come. I have many times looked through at particular dates from over 10 years ago when I was living a very different life - like reading the fall-out of the defeat at Halifax back in '01 from an internet cafe in Amsterdam or drunkenly following us throw-away an injury time draw against Rotherham or just the build-up to the Orient game back in '98.
Following a football club these days would be radically different without having the access to other TUFC followers other than on a matchday. Again, I cannot over-emphasise how much both the original .net an the TFF enchances the lifestyle choice of following TUFC!

I fell asleep on my living room floor at 9pm as I'm so worn out this week and have just half woken up and read what mervo had so say. I will re read it all again in the morning and may well repost it all as he said we can and say a few things I have wanted to say for a very long time. Right back to sleep

I will delay making the post I intended to write this morning as Mervo has sent me an email that I will reply to shortly, the email has pleased me immensely and may well result in some changes being made on the TFF.
I will have a good chat with Mervo and keep you all informed when I will have more details.

If anybody can find them, take a look at the thread for the game against Barnet (can't remember which year) when we had to at least draw to stay in the football league. Mervo predicted the score in advance, and he provided all the evidence after the match. Some of the comments from fans who had gone up to Barnet, some of whom were locked out when the ground was full, make me feel quite ...well emotional really.

Hi teddingtongull the link that was put up last night went to a page where Mervo had answered a number of posts made on here by TFF members, that link now seems to have changed and its a bit of a shame as it was well worth reading his thoughts and views.
As I said in my post above Mervo has contacted me and I'll have a chat with him and I'm sure the TFF will be able to come to a good arrangement.

You've given me something else to investigate on my next visit to Exmouth. Perhaps there is a need for the definitve Sports Grounds of Exmouth thread?

For those who were around at the time, I wasn't the "Song Sheet Sal" - couldn't possibly take that accolade from her! There were two Sal/Sally's around at the time.
Merse, wasn't it a mate of yours who got involved in some altercation after that Barnet match?
