 How many referees did we get from Newport in those days? As a kid I remember it always being a moaning topic amongst the Plainmoor crowd that we had yet another "Welsh Ref" and one that always used to particularly annoy me was Leo Callaghan Who remembers the day he reffed at Plainmoor in a then unheard of all scarlet kit? I can recall too, the day Keith Walker was knocked out by a celebratory Trevor Shephard "punch"; that he was reffing in all maroon that day. I must say though that when I took up the whistle I was particualrly indepted to FIFA refs Clive Thomas and Howard King who BOTH persuaded their kit suppliers, Adidas; to fit me out with the very same top of the range kits that they wore.
