James and I popped along to to Toore Abbey to have a look at Damien Hurst's cow. what an anti-climax. Sorry if you think I'm a neandethal but what a load of crap. Pah..............we've got better cows than that in London. Click onto the Jelly's Diary link on the bottom of this post then select Jelly's Images (image no 234) and you'll see what I mean! Mind you a sheep would have got your juices going wouldn't it?

James and I popped along to to Toore Abbey to have a look at Damien Hurst's cow. what an anti-climax. Sorry if you think I'm a neandethal but what a load of crap. The FREE exhibition had a tent ona raft, a load of stones, etc etc. THAT IS NOT ART. these people are takiing the piss out of us. Tracey Emins is not art!!!!! As ever, each to his own. But, if you've to decide what isn't art, you need to define what is art. Having grown up believing that art had to be something recognisable on a canvas and in a frame, I've slowly become more accepting of different forms of art. Wasn't that impressed by the raft; liked the landscape images in the box viewed from different angles and was totally intrigued by Hirst's cow and calf divided (which, of course, is much different to the cow and calf outside the Spanish Barn). Also enjoyed last year's Field for the British Isles at Torre Abbey and am generally appreciative of efforts to bring more of this to Torbay. Elsewhere, on my walks around Torquay recently, sorry to see Waterstone's close - the town has an unfortunate track record for bookshops - but, after reflection, I believe Rock Walk needed to be done. Oh yes, and the balloon has grown on me ...

Those horse look to me to have been made by Heather Jansch who lives just outside of Newton Abbot and makes them out of driftwood. www.heatherjansch.com/The only day I borrowed someone’s car to get to work while mine had some work done on it and while I was out in the van a long way away from Toolfix, she called in to pick up soon tools that had been repaired and as she tried to turn her big four by four pick up to leave our yard, she reversed into the back of the car I loaned. When I did return and drive in through the gates and saw the damage done to the car I was a bit gutted I can tell you and did not enjoy having to make the phone call to the owner and tell him what had happened to his car. It all got sorted out as her insurance company gave the go ahead for the repairs in only a few days and the car owner was just fine about it all and said he was always happy for me to borrow the car again, to date I have not done so ;D Her work I do consider as art and if you check out her website you will find many examples of her work and even a few pictures with her in them. When I see such things that are everyday objects that have just been placed on say a wall or floor, I do not feel it should be called art.

I was half-expecting that type of comment. Only half? From east of Ilford, to be honest, rather than Torquay's North West Frontier.

What about this for art from Mervo? www.savedbyart.com/art/Found when I clicked .net in my favourites this morning. Glad the old boy is inadvertently joining our debate. He doesn't know what he's missing on this site.
