England squad to face Hungary:
Goalkeepers: Ben Foster (Birmingham), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Paul Robinson (Blackburn)
Defenders: Wes Brown (Manchester United), Gary Cahill (Bolton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Michael Dawson (Tottenham Hotspur), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), John Terry (Chelsea)
Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Aston Villa), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)
Forwards: Darren Bent (Sunderland), Carlton Cole (West Ham United), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Bobby Zamora (Fulham)
Any thoughts? The squad certainly looks a bit fresher.

So Paul Robinson and Wes Brown quit International football. No great loss there. They both weren't good enough to replace the previous incumbents and they're not good enough now. They've both realised that and it's more important for them to concentrate on their club careers. It's just a shame that those usual tw@ts in the press are using this as a stick to beat Capello with.
That Capello. He ain't bloody English.

I couldn't agree more Chris...................more than likely that Brown has a good chat with Sir Alex Ferguson and is under no illusions that his club place is under threat as a regular feature for him and he has been advised, and taken it; that involvement with England will not be condusive towards that regular starting place in the United team being made available to him. I note how, to his credit; he called in at the England HQ at The Grove (not far from Wembley) last night and spoke to Fabio Capello face to face...............I am sure Capello appreciates his decision. Robinson, clearly doesn't want to be England's number four or five goalkeeper at 30 years of age ~ fine, move onto a younger one. The one caveat I would have is that maybe the lines of communication between management and fringe players are not all they should be, but then possibly the players concerned have only just come to those conclusions in the light of their club situations. Players at clubs such as Man Utd and Arsenal are under enormous pressure to hold down a first team place, let alone achieve one in the England squad yet where are many of them today, rather than completing their "pre-season" with their clubs? That's right they are at The Grove with the England squad in preparation for a friendly international match................burning the candle at bothe ends will only shorten it's life!

Surprised to see Terry selected. I thought the World Cup would be the end of the road for him and England under Capello. I presume Defoe is injured as he didn't let himself down at the World Cup and is better than 3 of the four strikers selected.

I was hoping it would be the end of the road for Terry, Lampard and Gerrard. I think there's a bit of psychological warfare going on between Capello and some of the senior players. Those Capello sponsored stats weren't published by accident on the internet, for sure!

Fat Frank and Terry I would have been happy to see go. Think there are still a few quality miles left on the Gerrard clock.

Get shot of them now, get young players in who want to play and let's sack off the 2012 European Championship completely.

I don't see Steve Gerrard as being anywhere near world class, and it's because he has been overhyped as such that we are no nearer being up to that elevated standard as a national team. Being a competent (and no more) club player does not equate to being world class. He's not even in the class of previous Liverpool midfield players like Didi Hamaan, or if you really want to go back to the true England midfield greats from that club; Ian Callaghan, Emlyn Hughes or Kevin Keegan.I think some people are so starved of seeing truly world class English players they grasp at the straw of the best contemporary players we have and substitute them for players of genuine class. We have a bevvy of younger talent who might achieve that sobriquet, but please recognise that to be world class one has to be of equal ability and effectiveness as and against the very best in the world otherwise the tag is simply ludicrous.
