I have actually played a match, football not cricket, in front of the stand... with spectators using it.

When I first lived in Exmouth, sandwiched between residing in Teignmouth, I went to the local primary school and the old Exmouth Town playing area was our school pitch. We would play our matches against other teams there but I had no idea at the time what its relevance was.
