Try telling that to the residents of the Ardoyne, Shankill, Falls, the Markets, Bogside, Creggan, Ligoniel, Oldpark, or Andersonstown. Only don't stand too close if you do! Oh, I've no doubt their petty little grievances remain. Thankfully however, their turf wars and battles assume little more importance than your average London gang dispute. A local policing matter, and no more. Which is how it should be.

Oh, I've no doubt their petty little grievances remain. Thankfully however, their turf wars and battles assume little more importance than your average London gang dispute. A local policing matter, and no more. Which is how it should be. You are not totally wrong in your assumption although the local turf wars you describe have in the past escalated to such an extent that some of the results have included the murder of an MP, the murder of a member of the Royal Family, the murder of 18 soldiers in one incident (a few thousand over 30 years), and the murder of 12 innocent diners in a bomb explosion at a Belfast restaurant. Makes your petty South London turf wars over "You're dealing on my patch!" sound like a tea party in a kindergarten! London does have it's economic and social problems behind the drug fuelled criminality, but without the level of political and historical background that pervades in Ireland (and is not restricted to just Northern Ireland). Any way we are now at the end of the silly season of little relevant news so let's get back to the football and the big kick off tomorrow. 5-1 and a Kee hat trick would keep me happy! ;D

I am familiar with a fair amount of Irish history. I lived in the Irish republic for a time and wanted to understand the place in which I lived. It's undeniably interesting, even when one concludes that the means employed by both sides so often seems vastly disproportionate to the ends on offer. It would be absurd to claim that policing during the Troubles bore any relation to policing anywhere else in the UK. I maintain however that in general- though perhaps excluding the marching season - the threat in the areas you mentioned before is more akin to that found in a rough inner-city neighbourhood elsewhere than in those same areas 20 years ago.

That's fine Lambeth and it is clear that whilst we do not completely agree with each other we do not either completely disagree. I blame the Americans with their blinkered propoganda war films, after all they started this! No comment on my football forecast then? This is after all a football forum you know!

Oh dear Stefano never mind, the thought police are back at it, best not mention anything about minorities or other races or even anyone different to yourself for fear of being corrected! I will probably get told off for this post but I just can`t stand Leftism!

You have merely stated a point of view without being offensive or aggressive in any way and it is not a view that would stray outside of legal boundaries. Forking tomorrow?

... but I just can`t stand Leftism! You're joking, Aussie - thumping great album from Leftfield in 1995. "Open Up" was the best thing John Lydon's ever done, "Afro Left" would get Plainmoor jumping if it were played as the teams came out and "Inspection (Check One)"'s got a bubbling bass line that drives a skanking beat. "When mi come a dance, a tuff me tuff", indeed! Dread.

It is, but this isn't a football section of it, Stefano. But a win tomorrow will definately warrant further discussion

You mean anyone who takes issue with your uncouth utterances stemming from your primitive and rather quaint view of the world?

Guilty conscience by any chance? Never mentioned anyone in particular! You have your opinions and I have mine, there different, live with it!
