This is my first post so I hope I get it right! I lived in Second Avenue on the Daison Estate just after the War and at No. 38 lived John McNeil and later Harold Dobbie. I always understood it was a club owned house. Welcome to the forum! Please feel free to chip in any comments on old threads in the History Room and the Programmes Rooms. It's good to have someone on board whose memories go back to the John McNeil years.

Evening all, just to add my twopenneth...in the 60s I lived at 82 Highland road... next door at 84 we had Alan and Kay Smith, followed by Robin Stubbs and Anthea (nee Redfern) - I could tell you a couple of tales!!
Robin used to drive me to Plainmoor in his Mini Cooper (complete with roof mounted spotlight as I remember!!)
In Sherwell valley road there was Jim Fryatt...
Many years later I moved next door to Mike Green...

This piece I found from the Football League Review of November 1966 will confirm that Jon is correct and Mr O'Farrell's memory serves him well!

Ron Shaw at 56 West Pafford Avenue in 1947/48? That house would have been pretty new at the time.
Noticed a line of Kelly's directories on the shelves of the new Paignton library when I popped in recently. There's scope yet....

Andy Donnelly lived on Frobisher Green and would come to the Sherwell Valley School Fete where you could pay sixpence to take 3 penalties on him. If you scored all 3 you got your money back. I scored the first 2 and then he gave me the Grobelaar wobbly knees on the 3rd and I blasted it over the bar into Shiphay Manor Stables.

Peter Coffill used to live in Ben Johnson Close, while Leon Constantine lived and then rented out a house on the Willows at Kingfisher Close.

Martin Gritton bought a flat in Torwood Gardens and Roscoe Dsane rented a flat in Greenway Road when he was here.

Fascinating read this thread...how about player manager Mr Percy Mackrill who became secretary manager and was living at 46 St Margarets Avenue in 1928...just a stones throw away from the ground.

Tommy Northcott lived in Hawkins Avenue at some time as he was on my paper round from Purdies. I also went to Sherwell Valley with his eldest daughter Julie.
Gordon Astall lived at 64 Frobisher Green and I knew his daughter Carol quite well from Torquay Athletic Club. Back in the 70´s I also played skittles with Gordon for Ellacombe, home alley The Globe (Dog & Duck) at Babbacombe!
All so long ago now!

I remember Andy Donnelly at the Sherwell Valley school fete. We all had wobbly knees after landing in the TBGS sandpit.

Peter Coffill used to live in Ben Johnson Close I bet he could run from one end of the road to the other in 9.79 seconds - at least until he got crippled by Budleigh's frisbee on Teignmouth beach. Had a long chat with Peter when he came down for "Ian Twitchin day". He had made the long trek down from Essex to remember his old friend and team mate. I did not recognise him at first without the beard. A really nice bloke. I reminded him of the free header he put over the bar for what should have been the equaliser in that Boxing Day classic against his old club Watford. "Thanks for that" he said. It was etched in his memory just as it was in mine - I was looking straight at him from behind the Babbacombe end goal.
