Did anyone see the horrible news from Germany yesterday? 19 dead when I last saw it and hundreds injured, what a tragic event, it was called the Love Fest or something like that! One way in, one way out, with over a million people corralled into a venue via a very narrow tunnel, what were the event organisers thinking? Someone needs to be brought to book over this I feel!

an accident sadly waiting to happen i am afraid, the only saving grace is the falaties could of been a lot worse, although that is scant consulation to the bereaved. We never seem to learn as a race do we? what started off as a fun weekend for many ended in tragedy, another situation that could well of been avoided

the "Love Parade" at Duisburg is dominating the German press at the moment. Whereas previous Parades (with up to 1 million ravers) have been held in Berlin or Dortmund the latest rave was tragically hosted by Duisburg on the old goods train station site which proved to be totally unsuitable. Access was only via tunnel, instead of the expected 250,000 guests 1,4 million turned up and those entering and trying to leave the site had to go through the same tunnel. The outcome was inevitable, 21 dead, 400 injured and now the finger pointing starts. In this mornings papers was a picture of Anna A. from Heiligenhaus, died of her injuries yesterday aged 25 years. All deaths were due to internal injuries sustained in a crush at the bottom of a flight of steps where people were trying to get out of the tunnel. Reading this made me remember going to watch Exeter play Manchester United in about 1968. We stood on the large open terrace with the Manchester fans and after the game about 5,000 Manchester fans headed for the only exit over towards the railway line, there was an almighty squeeze and reminded me of the danger experienced at Duisburg!
