Many of us Newton boys on here have often talked about the wonderful legendary music teacher Johnny Griffiths, I know while Merse never went to Highweek school for boys where Johnny was the music teacher for so many years, he has fond memories of the great man. A festival music stage is being name after Johnny Griffiths and below is the story from todays Herald Express.

Ah the great Johnny G.................and Soft Toy Heroes too. From Totnes if I remember correctly. I've got a CD they cut a few years ago when myself and the CGs were doing all we could to raise their profile amongst our membership. Saw them perform at the Barfly in Chalk Farm and not a bad band either. They had a charismatic lead singer called Rupert who was a dead ringer for Robbie Savage!

a great bloke was johnny griffiths, glad he was one of my teachers, nice touch to have him remembered like this.Seeing his photo evokes many good memories of highweek secondary, cant help thinking that they were better times, pupils had respect for their teachers then, especially the likes of johnny griffiths truly a one off as teachers go.Only one problem with him,you couldnt keep him out of the bookies ;D
