what a surprise we meet again ;D Don't see a problem! Capello has got our squad well and truly on their toes. If we can avoid and forget penalties, Germany have actually only beaten us once in 'real time' in the finals of a major championship ... 3-2 in 1970 when an understandable tactical decision by Sir Alf Ramsey to save two players for the semi-final when we were 2-0 up backfired dramatically. Bring it on ... as long as Merse doesn't join in that boorish song I saw on the recent video in a square in the Netherlands!

Yes, bring it on...................if you're going to win a World Cup then you have to beat good teams whether it be in the last 16 or onwards. Looks like it could be Argentina in the quarter finals anyway so win those two and that's two major rivals for the title out of the way. If we're not capable of beating teams like this then we can't win a World Cup anyway so what's the point of getting to a final by an "easy" route only to crash at the last hurdle to the first quality side we meet? As Stefano says, they only have one outright victory over us before penalties in World Cup history, and just as I never joined in with the morons in any England trips I went on, neither will I on Sunday!

correct in your thinking, germany and argentina reached a final each that they lost, basically because they were lucky to get there and hadnt played any quality ties in the run in,if your good enough it wont matter who you play barring a little luck

If England (read the big 4) play to their strengths than they can beat the Germans. Play like they did in the group games and it's all over.
Overhere in Holland we're still not impressed by the English team, hopefully this will change after sunday's game!
Is it the pressure that causes this? I mean in the qualifiers it all went very well with confident performances.
The Slovenians, the smallest nation present at the WC, did make life very difficult yesterday. Sunday's just one game, do or die!

England invariably play better against 'efficient' opposition, among which Germany can be included. Northern/Eastern European teams are as close as they come to being our ideal opponent, although this German side does have something many have lacked in recent seasons - youth.
If England can keep Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira quiet (and I bet most of you hadn't heard of them before the tournament) then I would be quietly confident that we will make it through to a quarter-final clash with Merse's old pal Diego.
Shame about that US game finishing as it did, but as others have intimated, Ghana would have been a harder opponent than Germany.
Now the real England team that Don Fabio seems to have found again needs to show up!

Great, it's Germany!!! This is what the WC is all about for me. Playing top class opponents and hopefully beating them. I don't subscibe to all that WW2 crap, but our history certainly gives the game an "edge". Then the Argies probably........bring it on!!!
Who will the royal family support? Their adopted country or the one of their forebears? Shame greece are out for them too. Still they can enjoy their Battenberg/Mountbatten/Windsor cake while they make up their mind.

Its a better tie than Ghana that's for sure and we would have had much more pressure on us had we been playing them. As it is I would imagine that the Germans are very slight favourites for this one so perhaps the pressure will be off with the knowledge that defeat to the Germans would not be as embarrassing as exiting against a very fit, talented and mobile Ghana. Pressures off a bit now so we should perform so the result of this one is wide open.

Who will the royal family support? Their adopted country or the one of their forebears? Shame greece are out for them too. When I saw them in Morrisons yesterday, Betty & The Duke were loading up their trolley with plenty of beers and England caps and flags. I don't think Old Piilipous has forgiven The Bubbles for giving his family the heave ho during the Generals Revolution and neither he or the missus are very partial to the Germans for wrecking their ancestral ceilings during the blitz.................although The dear old Queen Mum was adament it was just a "bit of an over enthusiastic firework party"I think to be honest any country that had the good grace to turn out in pink and primrose quarters would get the Battenburg family support................maybe that's why The Sweaties adopted those colours when they faced England in the very first international football matches in Victorian times. Anyway, I asked Her Madge if she would be getting her feet up and cheering on the boys yesterday afternoon and she said "yes, of course young man; but we'll have to give it a miss on Thursday as we're orff to Wimbledon...................not that ruddy outdoor ping pong mind you; me and the Ole Geezer are going down the dogs and in our younger days we used to love a bit of stock car racing over there too ~ does Vinny Jones still drive for them?"It's great living in lil'old Lun'un, you never know who you are going to bump into, it was only last week Charlie George was in the check out queue also ~ a bit of an attention seeker though is old Chas; he has a habit of laying on his back for some unknown reason with both his arms in the air ~ an old dear was having a go at him for queue jumping but he pulled rank on her " I used to play for Arsenal you know" he said. 'Yeah, and I'm Ronnie Woods' latest girlfriend ' she replied 'now get to the back of the queue!'Lun'un people eh? such gentle and warm folk......................I'm so proud to live 'ere ~ ave a banana! * Have those two idiots finished their game of tennis yet, don't they know there are others who would like a game? No class there these days is there!

If they were I suppose they'd have left their towells on the chairs before they went home last night. Bloody hell, we'll be allowing players who can't be perfectly understood in the press interviews to play there next....................wot we do already? What's the world coming to?

Now that we`ve drawn Germany, England have been put back from 8/1 to 10/1 with bet365.
I think with Joe Cole in the side we`ll have a better of scoring when we go forward; if we play Crouch that will; add presense and make it harder for thier keeper and defense who don`t seem confident when defending set-pieces and corners. Rooney could do with a kick up the backside in my opinion. Lennon or Wright-Phillips on the right would be good as well. I would go with Wright-Phillips myself.

So now we've got a line up that functions, you'd make three changes? Wonderful Rooney's already had a kick on the ankle, what good would a "kick up the backside" do him in heaven's sake? Milner provided the whipped in balls that strikers thrive on that have been missing since the days of Beckham in his pomp, so you'd leave him out huh? Once such ball lead to the goal for Christ's sake! I'm sure Crouch for our only world class player or our match winning striker would be right up Deutchland's Strasse.................it wouldn't be a case of presence but presents if you were picking the team.
