Yorkgull very kindly emailed me this story this morning. It appears that a bit of a storm has developed in Germany. Michael Ballack's agent Michael Becker has quoted by magazine Der Spiegel that Germany's success at the World Cup was down to them being a "bunch of gays". Should we dispense with Fabio Capello and hire Dale Winton? www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/13/germany-footballers-gay-michael-becker

I get the impression that Ballack is a nasty piece of work at the best of times. Some months ago I had a job driving a film producer who had to come over to London just to accomodate the Chelsea player's ego. Ballack had refused to fulfil a contractual obligation to attend a DFB film shoot in Berlin and as the only player from their World Cup Squad who was missing, they had arranged to film him at some studios in Bow, East London and "paste him in". Not happy with this pampering, Ballack then refused to travel by chauffuer driven car from his Surrey home and instead demanded a helicopter. I think the Germans are well shot of him and who cares or not if they do have gay players in their squad? No doubt most of the squads in South Africa did anyway, what has it to do with what they were there for and what has it to do with anyone else anyway.......................get a life Michael Bollack Ballack!

Indeed.
I just find it amusing that Herr Becker decided to aportion Germany's excellent technique in the Tournament by linking it to the level of their "gayness"!
Just after their 4-1 drubbing of England, Thomas Mueller was quoted the next day as saying that there were "too many alpha males" in the England line up. It seems like young Mr Mueller is a very keen observer of Group Dynamics.
Ballack is one of those special players, who rather like Mark Van Bommel and Siniša Mihajlović seem to specialise in winding people up.
