Merse as we all know, will always tell It like It is, how he sees It, I think at times he is wrong, but will always respect his views, even If at times we all may find him somewhat blunt.
He does make some very good observations as regards the atmosphere he witnessed at Cambridge, he said
played in a vibrant atmosphere with rhythmic drumming and hand clapping creating a theatre of noise and enthusiasm the like of which we never see at Plainmoor.
The fact is that there was a time when Plainmoor was like that, times when I had tears swell up in my eyes as the whole atmosphere was to me simply magic. We have had drums(not always played well), balloons, yellow and blue and yes the ripped up yellow pages, all thrown into the air, as our team came out for the start of the match.
We all know In this over crazy world of health and safety, that such things are now banned, but surly they are just a small part anyway, but I must confess, It had a kind of magic for me watching It happen. What I really want to know Is why all the other magic seems to have also gone, maybe you can share your views, once a common denominator Is found, we could start to change things.
One thing I do believe is that fans are still suffering from a hangover from last season, so many believed we were going back up, only to see us fail and Exeter take the place we thought was ours. Then to also lose at Wembley, just another big disappointment, we had to try and swallow.
Louise m, sadly took one of my posts the wrong way, partly my fault as I did not properly get my meaning down in writing. I was trying to make the point that a young fan, may have had only a few disappointments as a fan of TUFC. Many older fans have had so many over the years, the result of this has eaten away some Of their enthusiasm. Like a boxer in the ring, who keeps getting knocked down, his will to get back up from the floor, seeps away with every knockdown.
The result In the end, is that he has had enough, He stays down, it ends having to take any more punishment, even In a love affair or a marriage, that too can suffer over the years. All the things that make you unhappy, all build up until you feel you no longer love that person, or the life you are living.
Being a fan of any team, Is also really about having a love affair, we know the feeling we got at our first games, the feelings you get when your love for someone Is so new. Like I said along the road we have all suffered pain and hurt, yes we have also cried some tears of joy, but more of great disappointment.
Our young fans do go to the ground with far more enthusiasm that the older ones, they are the flag makers, the ones who now make up and sing the songs. How many of us older fans have got to a point, where you can now say, you can take it or leave it, going to watch TUFC.
I know I can, I really want to get my full enthusiasm back, I would really want to walk into the ground, full of the hope and expectation, like I once always did.I have tried, only to see a very poor performance and so soon into my time at the ground, I have questioned why I bothered.
To improve the atmosphere at Plainmoor, it must first start with the team, not the fans, no one can expect to see our team playing like Brazil, but It needs to play with passion, It needs to put on a display, of never say die, we will give It our very best out on the pitch.
I believe that Is what you saw at Cambridge Merse, sadly that has not always been the case at home, show the fans you are trying, you do care and you want to win for them and most will always be happy, win or lose.
The magic that was once Plainmoor, does not need to be lost forever, Louise m, said we should start threads about halftime entertainment, to make It a better experience, yes but first and foremost, the fans need entertaining on the pitch. Start doing that and slowly things will improve at Plainmoor.
