A few more images from the Pictorial and Historical Survey of Babbacombe and St Marychurch. It seems to use a liberal definition of the two districts. The first picture is a real eye-opener - Watcombe Rocks in the 1870s: Next the house at Daison - now covered by Main Avenue and First, Second and Third Avenues - in 1918: Lastly, detail taken from the map contained in the Pictorial and Historical Survey. I've never seen Dogs Turd or Cats Turd on an OS map. This looks an unfortunate accident that made its way into every copy. Was somebody messing around with the original map? Or are these local terms to describe the various indentations between Babbacombe Beach and Long Quarry Point? It's a piece of detail I remember from first seeing the book nearly thirty years ago:

Ooh, Long Quarry - You've brought some memories back! We used to camp down there as young lads, drink booze and shoot some airguns - still got the pellet in my forehead! 15 year-olds, vodka and guns - a mix that should never be repeated...
