I've replaced this story from the history section this this one, it fits better here. My fellow Dutchman Gus Uhlenbeek was in that Fulham team. I've seen him make his debut for Ajax Amsterdam in 1989 against MVV Maastricht in "de Meer". A few years ago (2005) I met Gus Uhlenbeek at Carlisle's Brunton Park. He was playing as a winger for Mansfield that season. Me and two friends got the idea of doing Carlisle in day. I mean drive from Holland to Carlisle via Calais and the same way back, all in 24 hours. On the 15th of october 2005 we left Eindhoven at 04:15 in the morning and arrived in Carlisle around 1,5 hour before kick-off. During the warming-up we managed to get a picture taken of us with Gus together with the dutch flag. After the game it was straight back to Eindhoven via the shuttle in Calais. We arrived in Eindhoven at 03:45 in the morning. So mission completed. We did "Carlisle in a day" in less then 24 hours! Some pictures:

Great story and pictures ospelgull thanks for putting then up for us to enjoy, I would expect it seemed a long trip to you? Rolf claims where he lives you can be in another country in just one hour.
Its why he thinks England is such a big country, I would think here in Devon it would takes hours to drive from one end of the Devon to the other end.

It's the longest daytrip i've ever made. 770 miles through England and 400 through Holland, Belgium and France. Here I drive to Belgium in 20 minutes and to Germany in 35 minutes.
