It's not the snow I mind in the feckin' idiots in it that get on my tits. I left home at 6pm tonight with two infant cousins of my kids to take them home the two miles to Tottenham and have just got home.................. FIVE HOURS LATER with the two said infants and only having got half way (one ruddy mile) in just one inch of snow before turning back and putting them up here for the night! Five hours in total gridlock surrounded by friggin' wnackers who cannot handle a car on a bit of ice, buses abandoned all over the place because they have either broken down or are now driven by a workforce that is almost totally devoid of those who were trained on the Chiswick skid pan that was made obsolete when privatisation came in. I pride myself on my professional skills which include the ability to cadence brake on ice, fit snow chains (as certified) and generally set off from home suitably equipped for getting stranded (drinking water in the car plus a couple of bars of chocolate and dried fruit for an energy boost in case of hunger/energy loss) and the knowledge of how to select the most suitable gearing and stopping distances required on ice and snow. But all that doesn't stop me from being swamped in a sea of ineptitude, minor collisions with the culprits then blocking the whole road whilst they exchange details and argue and the ludicrous sight of idiots trying to push cars on ice, wearing trainers Now I've had to hand back my pre-booked early job tomorrow morning due to insufficient sleeping time and I'm going to bed even more ruddy grumpy than usual!

My boss’s wife was all excited last week with the news that we would be getting some snow down here, only this week she has been all disappointed there has not been any. Snow is fine for those with nothing to do other than play in it, but for those who need to use roads, its no more than a pain in the ass and puts road users at much greater risk. Early this morning I was doing 70mph on the A30 near Okehampton when I noticed the odd snow flake falling in my headlights. Within a few minutes it was a fill blown blizzard and was laying so fast on the road it was soon down to just one lane and cars driving at 20mph. I agree with merse that half the problem’s on the road when we have snow, is so many people using them who have no idea how to drive on roads with snow and ice on them. A few pictures taken on my camera phone.

It's OK khillllengend someone would of flashed him coming the other way if there was any "rozzers" ahead!! Not if they are taxi drivers Going to have a a few extra hours in bed in the morning as I'm not going to start work until 7.45am. I'm then only going to do a few local calls and get back to Toolfix by 11am, why? Well we have already had our Christmas party( three coarse meal and all drinks paid for by the boss) but on our last day of work before Christmas( well not even a half day ) the five men always have a all day breakfast at 11.30am in the cafe on the estate. This is once again paid for by the boss. The lady that runs it always remembers me from the last year ;D I'm looking forward to having some more fun with her tomorrow and also seeing the inside of her new cafe. Its now in a building where the old one was more of a caravan type thing. Then its home by 1pm and no more work until Tuesday the 5th of January.

I see Gus Poyet is bemoanng the fact that Brighton & Hove Albion have had no training facilities available except an indoor basketball facility during the recent weather. First waterlogging and now snow have kept them off the training pitches they use at the local university and it just goes to underline the pathetic manner in which several so called professional football clubs still operate in this country. Clubs that wish to achieve "Academy" status in order to develope their youth system are required to have at least one "Dome" in place over a suitable surface..................usually 3G and had Albion had at least this, it could have been utilised at this time instead of their manager wondering aloud whether or not basketball and other gym exercises will suffice to keep his players match sharp and fit. Talking of domes, there was a furore in Torbay some time ago now over one that was erected at the Tennis Club in Belgrave Road because local "NIMBYS" were on the moan that it was "unsightly"..........................what was the outcome of that? Did they get their way or have the Tennis Club managed to maintain something that is an asset to local sport and something to add to the portfolio of Torbay's sporting locations? Some time ago now there was conjecture that Torquay United might be developing a training ground on the site of an old farm at Buckfastleigh, and as the Racecourse facility is somewhat "temporary" what with it being rented from the local course; it is still perogative that the club obtain something that would be their's and somewhere where satisfactory facilities for training in all weathers and for all levels of the club's teams and age groups can take place and I personally think that would be an excellent project for TUST to lend their considerable hand to in the future and maybe THIS forum too if anyone from the boardroom or club management would care to enlighten us on the current state of the game regarding this. Mind you Buckfastleigh is an awfully long way from Torquay and can be notoriously hard to get to during weather like this, so there could be a scenario whereby Torquay was bathed in winter sunshine and the training ground was underneath snow drifts and inaccesible! Burnley's training ground is similarly located though and no doubt there are other clubs in industrial areas (Aston Villa come to mind) who's training grounds are "out in the sticks"

Do Not Drive This Morning
If you live in South Devon and were planning to use your car this morning, THEN DON'T
Every single road is covered in BLACK ICE, I just about got to Toolfix, but will not be taking the van on the road, there are crashes everywhere.
Please stay at home and do not risk it
The others from Toolfix are not now coming in, but I plan to stay here for a while until the situation improves
Take care Dave

Every single road is covered in BLACK ICE ...and the pavements of Totnes were covered likewise. Good to get back to the firmer footing of Ex'ter. Mind you, my inability to get to my chosen destination did offer the excuse of a breakfast in the cafe in the old signalbox at Totnes (the vegan option was off today I'm afraid). Boxing Day forecast looks okay at the moment. I might even get in an 11am kick off as the hors d'œuvre.

I remember during a lean winter music wise, doing a job for an agency in the Unigate works next door. It was a very late shift and also 12 hours long, but I did not mind to much as late in the evening in the middle of the shift, we would have a good fry up in the cafe.

The Signal Box closes around 5pm these days and I understand it is under relatively new ownership. There's some examples of its' fare at foods.fotopic.net/ - particularly foods.fotopic.net/c1645703.htmlI must add that I have no association with this site - nor have I contributed to it - although it looks like the proprietor is pretty local to these parts. Amazing what people put on the web, isn't it?

Amazing what people put on the web, isn't it? Yupp certainly is Barty, what with 25 variations of Barlow's chin last week; endless pics of diesels, and folk making pratts of themselves in coleslaw I can't wait for someone to post up their entire collection of paper clips and elastic bands whilst sitting in a pile of their own poo Must be the result of the collective lunacy brought on by ruddy Crimbo, I'll be glad when it's all over but the trouble is it's only another year before NEXT Christmas! N.B. For all you oddballs out there I've added another riveting edition to my blog tonight featuring (amongst other studies of grunge) err............ diesels

[ Merse, the TFF has four boards all dedicated to Torquay United, but as it is a community forum it welcomes its members to post on nearly every over subject they may like. There are other boards that have been set up for this purpose. I would kindly ask that you do not have a go at others for what they bring to the forum that they may feel will interest others, if you don't want to see pictures of diesels, or any other posts that are not football related, then stop using the last 75 post facility and just stick to only reading the threads on the Torquay United boards. It is not acceptable on the TFF for you to have a dig at what other TFF members post on this forum and then in the same post go on about that you have added another riveting edition on your blog. I have said before I have no problem with you letting us all know when you have put up a new edition on your blog, but in future I kindly ask that you use the thread you created on the forum about your blog to post such news and not use any other thread running on the forum. Dave
