We stayed about 3 miles from Spean Bridge. It was small but functional. heading out towards Fort Augustus and Loch Ness you come across this memorial
For those who don't know, it is a memorial to the commandos who trained there for the second world war. similar to slapton, it commemorates the commitment of our forces.

All these lovely pictures of Scotland take me back to my favourite holidays north of the border with my folks, from about 1980 onwards, every summer just about.
I've visited Blair Atholl a number of times, and have fond memories of Oban, although not for the guest house (it was always guest houses on holiday) which I first stayed in with the folks - one with a curfew at 9pm every night bar Saturday, when you were allowed an extra half hour.
I love visiting the Trossachs and Loch country, although it's been a while now. Arrochar, Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, some of my favourite little towns in the country, and if you ever find yourself in the hamlet known as Coshieville, if it is still on the map, visit the local hostelry and have a Coshieburger - after all these years it is still the best I have tasted. It's neer Weem, on a little road towards Kenmare I think, the latter a place I recall my first ceilidh. Sensational country and like Nick, one I would consider moving to along with New Zealand of course, just to get as far away from the rest of the world as possible lol.

here is another castle for Merse to identify where is this beauty? ok, either you all don't know or you are getting bored with Scottish castles ;D Eilean Donan Castle A MacRae stronghold which dates from the 13th century. Ruined by naval bombardment in 1719 and rebuilt earlier in the 20th century. It has a causeway, three-arched bridge and a gateway with portcullis which lead through walls which are up to 14 feet thick.

I was rather surprised to receive a photo in my post this morning that had been made into a postcard so a stamp could be stuck on it from Stefano. The picture is one he took recently and has told me the location, but I thought I would see if any members know just where Stefano was standing when he took the shot.

That's just him being too tight fisted to use an envelope Dave........................the only man I know who would go into a shop and order "half a pasty"

This is the front garden of a house in Inverteign, Teignmouth.
I believe that it is the house of a sculptor who's name escapes me but has plans to put his statue of a mermaid on The Point at the mouth of the river but either lacks the funding or the council won't grant him permission.
(my daughter tells me he is called Mike Nance)

I would expect it is and I'll take a look myself next Wednesday when I call at a customer nearby.

He is in his seventies I believe and he is the sculptor. Apparently, and only according to neighbours who can't be relied on, he keeps making these things which are intended to be erected somewhere but it doesn't then transpire so they stand in the garden awaiting loving attention. No idea about the actual situation but it certaInly caught my eye when walking up the road to a nearby house and I did think the statues had been professionally created, even if a bit out of place in a suburban front garden.
