Burgh Island, Bigbury & Challaborough
The big question is was Merse serious when he said he would not wish to go to Burgh Island? He claimed he gets very bad vibes there, it really sounded like the Island scares him in some way.
Today 3rd May 2009 was the 1st birthday of Carol’s grandson and there was a big party held at the leisure centre for him at 12pm, so we were unable to go out for the day today. Sat at home at 3,30pm the party all finished it just seemed to nice to want to stay indoors. Where to go was the problem at this time of the afternoon, but I said I wanted to do a shoot at Burgh Island just for merse and so that is where we set off for.
For those who do not know anything about Bigbury or Burgh Island I will tell you just a few things about the place. To get to the Island from Bigbury you walk across the beech, this is only possible when the tide is out, but its so strange waking on a beech where the sea is on both sides of the beech.
If you do not time your return trip correctly its not a problem as there is a thing? That will bring you back across; there will be a picture of the thing? The Island was used in a Poriot movie Evil Under The Sun, the hotel on the Island was used a lot in the film. There is only a hotel, pub and one cottage on the island and they are all on the same side close together.
From the island you can see a beech, we later decided to walk to it and we found out its called Challaborough, what a magic beech this was and it has a fish & chip shop on the beech, we just had to buy some and sat on the beech eating our food. I also took some more shots of Burgh Island from this beech.
I then went and had a great bit of fun, on the far side of the beech are some great looking rocks, I went over to have a look on my own. When I got there I found you could walk in a gap and it opened up into a great collection of rock pools and great rock formations.
Have a look at some 29 of the 144 pictures I took today and tell me you get some bad vibes just looking at them; I don’t think you will somehow, it’s a truly magic location.
