If ever proof was needed that it is not resources that will endeavour without hard work, but that hard work can win the day without resources. Nobody has less money to play with then John Still at Dagenham & Redbridge, but nobody works harder at it than his team and today has been their day and bloody good luck to them. Have you ever seen a chairman celebrate in the Royal Box like Dave Andrews..................71 years old and a man who has played at Wembley himself for Walthamstow Avenue nearly half a century ago. Beside him another septenuagarian, "Effin'" Ted Hardy.....................another who played on the famous turf when it was a fitting pitch (for Leytonstone) and who managed the Daggers too, before he retired from the management game. Proper football people ~ and you wouldn't catch them swanning about on a bloody cruise ship like someone I could mention, when his players where achieving something similarly crucial in Essex a few years ago. Just a "Pub Team from Essex" celebrating all the way over in Middlesex...........................a long way from home? Not as far as they have come from the Ryman League to League 1 and the likes of Hillsborough and St Marys since I first saw them play just over a decade ago. Well done Daggers!
