Good find, Timbo.
I assume the "fresh progressive spirit in the boardroom" refers to Arthur Milner replacing George Gillin as chairman. Other than that, the only change was CWS Williams joining the board as Mr Gillin departed.
As for the gold-and-blue, did you notice the programme for our cup game at Leeds that season? Indeed, look at the historical kits site, and you'll see the two clubs' strips were virtually indentical in 1954/55. Leeds only adopted the Real Madrid-style all-white in 1961.
I wonder if anyone can add anything about the "New United" of 1954?

I note that two of our six exciting new signings - Woolgar and Duck - never even featured in a first team game.
What awful, wasteful signings.
