Thomson Speedtouch modems are proving to be a complete waste of space, their software is not compatable with some programmes and falls over for fun, anyone else found this out the hard way?

Aussie I only buy and use Netgear and have found them to be the very best to use in a home network. When I was on AOL using a BT phone line I bought an ADSL rangemax Netgear Modem Router. Never had one single problem with it what so ever and I have recommended Netgear too many people who have all said how it greatly improved their home network.
I will be in the market soon to buy a new DSL Router as when I changed to Virgin on the cable service they provided a modem and as an extra free gift a basic Netgear router. It’s not as fast as my old one and being supplied by Virgin it has their software on it and its imposable to set up without using the disc they supplied.
You can’t log into the router as you can a Netgear that is shop bought and once it has been set up you can’t go into it and make any changes. Still it has been doing the job and my PC is some distance from the router and I still get the full 10mb speeds, but the signal from the router to my PC is not as strong as it was using the rangemax.
