Dave Thomas made a few interesting points last night on the radio, one concerned our defense and Nico in particular. The commentator was saying we were not getting tight enough to the Burton players.
Dave Thomas said that due to lack of pace Nico etc were playing the correct game, no good getting to tight and getting turned and unable to then catch the player and do anything about it. Far better Dave T said to show them down the line and stop them getting in behind us. It seemed to work and reading that Danny tracked backed and helped has to be the way to make up for any lack of pace in our defense.

No they defended more as a unit last night, especially in the second half. Hargreaves slotted into to the right back and centre back positions if the likes of Robertson, Charnock or Todd were slightly out of position after trying to win the ball back pro-actively. Stephens and Carlisle we also very disciplined and helped their respective full backs. We looked very organised as a unit last night. Wroe played in a slightly freer role in the second half and Rendell dropped into the Bergkamp area. It was a very satisfying evening. Only having to pay £13 was a bonus as well. I took a Russian mate of mine (CSKA Moscow supporter) to the game (the first ever Russian to pay to watch Torquay?) and he was very impressed. He thought we looked a lot better than either Aris Salonika or Boca Juniors which was his last game of football a few weeks ago whilst on holiday in Greece. It's a good job I didn't take him to Dagenham!

To all you Rose Tinters do not get 2 excited about this result Agreed, we played some good football in the 1st half and if Benyon could take his chances we would have been at least 3 up by half time. Thought SR played well and based on that performance TS will struggle to make the starting line-up.
Unfotunately the 2nd half was similar to the performance @ D&R on Sat - but with a bit better defending - but we still decide to play PB's style of HOOF ball where our only 2 shots on target where from Wroe from long range.
If we had to play against a side which do not want to walk the ball into the Onion Bag - we would have either drawn or lost.
Am pleased that Branson decided to join BA rather than The Mighty TUFC

If we had to play against a side which do not want to walk the ball into the Onion Bag - we would have either drawn or lost. You were there, I wasn't.................fair enough, but I would suggest a listen to Paul Peschisolido in his after match interview might present a balanced alternative to that argument when he recognises how easily and how well we dealt with sitting in on a two goal lead and defending on the eighteen yard line. Burton play the way they do, and it sounds like Buckle set the stall out to counter that, on Saturday he was badly let down by a number of players who forgot the basics of getting one's foot in and denying the opposition time on the ball and establishing the right to play in the manner to which we prefer. The first half an hour are vital in that department and on Saturday we failed miserably and Daggers achieved the ascendancy and thus walked all over us. The last time I saw that was at Eastbourne which was all of nine months ago now and (same as last night) didn't Bucks then stick with much the same line-up for the next game and give the team a chance to redeem themselves? My memory (or lack of it) prevents me from recalling exactly, but I know we went on to put a long unbeaten run together after that tanking at Eastbourne in very similar circumstances to last Saturday. Two consistently good seasons have done all the proving that needs to be proved that the manager knows what he is doing and the response of the team on Tuesday night after Saturday also surely proves that they are very much up to the task of this league and certainly "playing for him" as they always have done, so don't roll out this "hoof ball" nonsense again, we're NOT Barcelona of the Champions League, we're Torquay United on an upward ascendancy from the BSP into the Football League under a very competent manager........................get used to it!

Disagree that they tried to walk it into the net. I can recall that they had several long range efforts that either sailed over Bevans head or way past the post. Ok one was a bit near.

Just to say the goals are on OUR bbc website for all to enjoy (loving is football league lark and beeb coverage). Two good goals in my opinion especially he classy finish by Rendell. No away footage is complete for we without playing the "who can spot Paul Bastard in the away end quickest" game with me brother! There he is! Whoops pressed the wrong button.
Jaildodgergull.... I was at the Burton game. Can't for the life of me see how you can be critical of the 2nd half performance. Not a hint of HOOFBALL as you call it. This was a controlled, thoughtful and committed 'bounce-back' performance. It gave me a clear message that the manager and squad had learned very quickly from the shortcomings of the performance against dagenham. Akey feature was that we consistently played the ball out from defence a gainst Burton.
