I drove comedian Alan Carr today and told him I knew his dad. With that, he called him on his mobile and we had a short chat! Graham Carr used to play for Weymouth FC with my old colleague Alex Jackson and was later manager of the Terras on two separate occasions as well as Northampton Town where he also played during their ONLY season in the top flight in the mid sixties. He is now Chief Scout for Manchester City and the only employee retained by manager Mark Hughes since he moved in. Alan, as it happens, lives just a five minute walk from my home. At least he was not unkind about Torquay United...............I also drove Jenny Eclair the other week and she reckoned the Gulls were funnier than she was, and wanted to know when they were next on the telly so she could record them and use them as "ammo" to get rid of boring dinner party guests! ;D

I heard a young lady called Alice got into the Merse black cab. She started talking with him and told him she worked for the Queen, looking after her corgi's.
During the conversation, Merse told Alice who he was, Alice was shocked to find herself in the cab Of such a famous driver. She told Merse the Queen had often talked with her about Merse.
The Queen had told Alice she would often sit by the Palace window, looking out, hoping to see merse drive by in his big red bus, in the days when he was just only a bus driver.
I know said Alice I will give her a ring on my Mobile, I know she would just love to talk to you. So Alice phoned the Queen, "hello Liz Alice here, you won't believe who's black cab I'm sitting In" "No go on tell me said the Queen", only Merse" replied Alice," please put him on said the Queen, I have waited so long to get the chance to talk with him.
So Alice handed the phone over to Merse. " Hi Merse, Liz here, great to be able to talk with you, I will let you into a little secret. come the New Year Honors, I will be giving you a knighthood, for your services, you have helped millions get across our City, you have also been such a very popular person on the football forums I know you use".
Merse felt a hand on his shoulder, It was a fellow driver.Wake up Merse you fell asleep again, who did you dream you had in your cab this time, next you will be telling me you had just talked to the Queen.

On a point of order Dave...................."Big Red" buses don't drive past the Palace, never have done and never will do; and I don't drive a black cab. I am a self employed private hire driver working exclusively for Addison Lee (Google them) a Blue Riband logistics solutions company utilising vehicles ranging from motorbike taxis, courier vans and bikes, MPVs, VIP executive limos, and 4 coach fleets. The firm is used extensively by high profile companies ranging from the major financial institutions, the Football Association, top football clubs, TV and film companies, government departments, embassies, media and music stars, and only this past month carried Nelson Mandela on his recent visit to London. I have "done a job" for Buckingham Palace as it happens, it wasn't "Betty and the Duke", but I did get to spend a few hours inside enjoying the sitting room put aside "for the likes of me" and very nice it was too. There's no time to "fall asleep and dream" I'm afraid, but then when you've driven beautiful women like Sophie Dahl, a Sugar Babe, Mica Paris, Vanessa Mae and Mylene Klaas there's no need to dream!

Merse this true? Baldry MBE Respect to the country's military top brass who really did put Mark Baldry MBE forward for his well earned honour and respect to my good friend too. Now then, is your pension "from the gong" any better than my pension from London Transport? I think you and I both know that when it comes down to the wire they know the cost of everyone but not the value!
