I see that Northampton Town have finally lost patience with Adebayo Akinfenwa and told him to get lost after his latest bout of prevarication over signing a new contract......................now where have we heard THAT before? One would think that the overweight and injury prone player would have learned by now which side his bread is buttered ~ or will another club be prepared to take a punt on such a dreadful character?

It can certainly be a big headache when trying to plan for the following Season if some players prevaricate for too long as to whether they will be signing a contract renewal or not.
We certainly found that out to our cost with Akinfenwa which always surprises me a little when I hear that some supporters would be willing to see him back wearing a Torquay shirt.
Yesterdays Western Morning News touched on this issue when it highlighted the fact that Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton has given all players offered a new contract a month to make up their minds. The players who may wish to stay obviously have that month to negotiate with the Club and can hopefully settle on terms everyone is happy with.
Skiverton seems intent on bringing youngsters from the top Premier League clubs to Huish. 18 year old Luke Ayling has been signed permanently from Arsenal & he seems hopeful of attracting some players on loan from Spurs & Man Utd.

There's prevaricating and there's outright lying..................I'll leave you where I regard Akinfenwa and his chicanery with OUR club in that statement. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him ~ granted that wouldn't be very far would it! ;D Luke Ayling had been with Arsenal since the age of 10 and last year was his very first as a full blown professional and you can bet your bottom dollar one of the things they instilled in him was the correct and ethical way to negotiate his contracts. The average age for players making the breakthrough into first team football in the Football League has risen to between 19 and 21 these days.......................it used to be 17-19 so things are getting harder for the second year scholars to secure full contracts a the end of their educational programme as so many clubs now have dropped formal reserve fixtures with the result that unless these scholars are fit for service in their club's First Team squad they face being released. Things are getting harder and as Ian Holloway alluded to in his post match interview yesterday, a lot of the old values and ethics that were taken for granted have disappeared from the game in favour of selfishness and chasing the proverbial dollar.
