PS "Romford" eventually surfaced at Braintree Town today and he caught up with another former Gull, but I'll leave him to tell you all about that together with some pics no doubt!
Well, as you've probably worked out by now, I bumped into YET ANOTHER former Gull in the guise of Stevland Angus at Braintree Town on Saturday.
It seems that Stevland joined "The Iron" during August but until Saturday had not featured in any matches.
Up until then, Braintree had played 5 Blue Square South fixtures - namely Dorchester Town (H); Welling United (A); Maidenhead United (A); Hampton & Richmond (H) and finally, Chelmsford City (A).
However, Stevland's only appearance to date was as an unused substitute for the Hampton game.
Saturday saw the visit of Team Bath who ( before kick off) sat proudly in 2nd spot of the BSS, after managing to win 4 and draw 1 in their opening 5 fixtures.
Another impressive stat was their goals for/ against columns, which read F 17, A 3 !!
Braintree, in comparison had an opening record of:
Played 5, Won 0, Drew 1, Lost 4 Goals For 3, Goals Against 7.
With those records in mind, an away win looked favourite.
Braintree gave Stevland his debut at right back - albeit wearing the number 10 shirt (??) and astonishingly, from a Team Bath kick off, Braintree took the lead after 32 SECONDS!!
More was to come - with Team Bath looking in total disarray, Braintree hit a second after 7 minutes, a third after 10 and finished the game as a contest after 30 minutes with their fourth of the afternoon.
A certain "5th" goal was chalked off by the referee after 27 minutes - despite the ball crossing the line on AT LEAST 2 occasions!!
Stevland had a steady first half at right back - everything that came his way was dealt with with ease - he even foraged forward on a couple of occasions - so it was a bit of a surprise to see that he had been replaced for the second half.
I came to the conclusion that either he wasn't totally match fit, or he had taken a knock (see picture below).
After all the action of the first 45 minutes, the crowd of 497 expected much the same for the second half.
Alas, the second half proved to be a much tamer affair with Team Bath grabbing an 89th minute consolation goal - an effort that managed to strike BOTH uprights on the way in!!
As usual, I managed a couple of snaps. These are the ones I got of Stevland.
The first two are of him during the first half.
The third picture was after Braintree's warm down at the final whistle.
And finally, the fourth picture. Could Stevland have been injured by his own keeper perhaps?
