I had some critical observations to make of an aspect of Fulham FC's way of doing business earlier in the season, but may I be the first on here to congratulate them on a simply magnificent run that has just ended through losing the Europa Cup Final to Atletico Madrid in Hamburg tonight. A genuinely feet on the ground and decent football club and fans, who play some wonderful football and for my money are the best organised English team there is whenever they do not have possession of the ball......................the way they hold their shape, line and discipline is simply a huge testament to their excellent manager Roy Hodgson and their own professionalism. I saw Atletico at the beginning of the season against Arsenal at the Emirates and then it was obvious what a World Class striker Diego Forlan was and it was him and him alone that did for Fulham tonight. Obviously more suited to the Spanish game than the English one, and easily at home in the somewhat "South American" style that the Madrinos play in; this man is pure quality in the way he can lose players in the box to work his space and deliver the killer blow. .........................and just to think Torquay United were mentioned in the commentary tonight, being 2--0 victors over Fulham at Craven Cottage just thirteen years ago in League 2 whilst the Whites were fending off relegation to The Conference!
