I see Paul Buckle is considering asking the Football League for permission to make an emergency loan as both Poke and Bevan are unlikely to be fit to play against Notts County.
We are only five minutes away from setting a new club clean sheet record that was set two seasons ago when we were playing in the BSP and it stands at 605 minutes.
We have not conceded a goal since we beat Shewsbury by two goals to one at Plainmoor on April the third so that's 601 minutes since we last had a goal scored against us.

The most nerve-racking four minutes of the season then?!

That Shrewsbury goal was credited as a Bevan own goal wasn't it?

Stick him in surely we can pack the defence for 5 minutes just to get the record. After that young Searle can let seven in & no ones going to worry.
Personally in keeping with the carnival end of season atmosphere I'd like to see us put Shaun North in goal for the afternoon.

Would be a real shame not to see Pokey in a Torquay shirt again though - he has been a real star throughout the time he has spent with us - wonder who will be wearing the GK jersey next August?

Fair play to those that mentioned Lee Butcher before the paper did.

On a serious note, a young scholar professional hoping to make a career for himself is not some Aunt Sally character to stick out there for you to laugh at is he? I suggest you give the football a miss on Saturday and sit with the kids watching Punch & Judy on Torre Abbey Sands. Personal confidence and preventing over exposure to individual pressure is one of the key aspects in developing young players in a responsible and holistic manner ~ it is more pertinent in the case of goalkeepers than any outfield player. No doubt the parents of young Mike Searle were given serious undertakings as to the management's duty of care ethic before they allowed him to sign for Torquay United......................if not, I would want to know why. Surely we all want to see Searle emerge as our regular goalkeeper in the future, not disappear as a one game wonder who got slaughtered by the likes of Miac and his Moaning Army of Character Assasins.....................because you know and I know what an ignorant element we have amongst our crowd. Look how they got on young Mikkel Andersen's back and look what he's achieving now, so who are the real clowns?

It has to be of some concern that BOTH our goalkeepers are somewhat injury prone..................not just since they joined us, but before hand as well. Maybe it is time to recruit a good young goalkeeper from amongst the many who will be released by the top clubs this summer?

Merse I dont thnk they want him in goal to have a laugh at. It just doesnt matter now who we have in goal really, it dosent affect where we are. BUT personally I`d like to see someone come in to help us get the record but Bevan could be back perhaps in time.

this game for me is important, and far to big a game for searle,it would i.m.o be unfair to ask searle to play this match.
danny has been released by cambrdige as avictim of cirumstance acording to ling,i think he is a good keeper capable of playing league 2 football.
worth a shout loaning him in for this match,to have al ook?

Some decent weather on saturday and a late morning stroll near Torre Abbey sands with a ninety nine will be perfect pre match preparation for me.
I don't seriously expect Buckle to give Searle a game on Saturday but personally I'd give the lad the option if he fancied it. It's no European Cup final or Title decider it's a relatively meaningless Lge 2 match. County have scored 5 in their last 2 matches so no ones going to point the finger at our goalkeeper (whoever it may be) if he also lets in a few against them.
An end of term game with both Clubs fate for next season already decided seemed like the most pressure free game of the season I could think of.
But , yeah you've got to know the individual player involved. Spink came on as an unknown youngster for Jimmy Rimmer in a European Cup final & thrived on the experience. Teenage Chris Woods deputised for Shilton in some final or other for Forest that I can't be bothered to look up.
Some keepers might absolutely love the idea & grab the opportunity with both hands , while others with neither the temperament or ability as yet would rightly need to stay wrapped in cotton wool for a little longer until they are ready.
But if you want pressure free & the Plainmoor crowd at it's least critical for many a long month then next saturday looks ideal for a young lad with ability and the right character to try himself out against the big boys.

I can`t see what`s wrong with giving him the option, if he`s up for it then how can it hurt him? If he`s worried in the slieghtest then get someone else in, I bet he`d be right up for it and would tear Buckles arm off to have a go in goal for the first team, he`s got Kenny there to help him so all the experience you could ask for to give him advice and guidance. The way I see it is a massive opportunity for the lad to progress to the next level, he`s gonna get older not younger so this wrapping them up in cotton wool theory because their young in my book is complete garbage and only serves to hold players back!
