This is the programme for our first away game of the 1967/68 season at Orient (as they labelled themselves then) and has a little bit of history in that it is the one and only time that John Still, manager of last week's would-have-been opponents Dagenham & Redbridge, ever played a league match (one of a 'select' group of players to have had this distinction) having been signed as an amateur over the summer.
Unfortunately he didn't even manage to get his name printed in the programme, or get himself in the official team photograph, shown in this programme.
The programme itself is very small, similar to the size of United's programmes for a time in the sixties, just a bit over 4x5 inches.
We won the game 2-0 in front of 4,411 spectators giving us maximum points from our two game so far.
Interesting small biogs of the away team after each name in the line-up.
We didn't start with the team shown in the programme:
No.2 was Eric Burgess instead of John Bond who played at 4 instead of Alan Smith. 7 was Ron Barnes instead of Doug Clarke who played at 8 instead of David James. No.11 was John Docker playing in place of the aforementioned Ron Barnes. Docker only played a handful of games for United having come from Coventry City on loan.
There is a small write-up about Orient player Barry Fry and his new arrival, a baby daughter. He is also in the club photo. Strange how Fry and John Still's paths seem to follow each other. They both went on to manage Barnet, Maidstone and Peterborough.
John Still was, of course, manager of Barnet on the day we avoided relegation by beating them 3-2 at Underhill sending them down instead.
