Excellent Timbo....I bet the Typewriter Shop is stuggling these days!
Shaw's Fish Cafe...the very mention makes me hungry.
Plymouth Breweries.....their depot was next to the Palk on Teignmouth Road (see the view from "our house" on the Racing at Petitor thread). I would have seen their dray horses as a kid, wouldn't I?
And what of those old "pen names"? Who was "Follis" - and why?
Anybody got Torquay v Coventry 3 Dec 1955? Day I was born...

Works a treat but I'm worried about the digital switchover. 405 lines still does the job apart from a bit of "foreign interference" (usaully from Wenvoe) and icy conditions at North Hessary Tor. It's not as if I need it for all those computerised video games, is it?

See you Saturday unless there are some sheep which require a 'good sorting out'. I dare say Jon and I will be camping on or near the half-way line - no room to change ends and NOT so we can get our mugs on the box.

I’m glad you have brought this programme back up Timbo, I meant to post on it before about the advert for Torbay Stores in Warbro Road, is the shop still open?
Merse and I talked a long time ago on the forum about a shop in Newton Abbot long since gone, known as Mrs Elliot’s, the only shop to be nearly always open most of the time and especially on a Sunday. Baking was done on the premises and the shop was prosecuted a few times for having mice etc living there.
I don’t know if Merse knows this, but when the shop did close down in the end, Mrs Elliot bought and ran the Torbay Stores and took the man who I believed was a lodger of hers, with her to Torbay Stores. Many people may remember him in Torbay, as he was often by the bus stops by the Town Hall and was often drunk.
I still do not have the answer I was hoping someone might answer re the Babbacombe Garage advert. It asks if they can store and maintain your car during your LAY UP PERIOD, just what is that?

No I didn't know that Dave, blimey fancy taking him with her! He can't have been her lover though looking at her gorgeous daughter Missy Elliott who I wouldn't mind "laying up" with anytime I think I'm right in saying the "laying up" time in the garage advert refers to time when a vehicle is out of use like when your van is when you take a holiday and it makes a productive use of unused time rather than intruding on working time. Blimey, Miss Elliott's ; the type of shop one takes for granted where I now live ~ open all hours and much like the legendary Arkwright's Emporium and "Auntie Wainwright's" on Last of the Summer Wine where the old dear would sell you half a pair of shoes if you were prepared to hand over your money. I'd love to feature that shop on my blog..................does anyone know where I could source a photo of that old place?
