Another great thing about being back in the league is we do not have to play in any qualifying rounds, just to get into the first round proper. This programme was a first round replay at Plainmoor after we drew the game nil all up at Ashton Gate. An estimated 1000 TUFC fans that made up 20% of the total where there to cheer on the team and yes I was one of them. I felt like many others that we should have won the game up at Ashton Gate, we did deserve a goal to show for the way we attacked the game and one man stood out for me that day, Bruce Rioch, I’m sure Barton will feature him in his TUFC managers spot he is doing in the history room. If you have any memories of the away and the home game then please share them on this thread. This period for me as a TUFC fan has to be one of my favourites; it just seemed special to have someone like Rioch out on the pitch for TUFC, who can ever forget the chants that went up when we won a free kick. Rioch, Rioch, Rioch, Rioch, would ring all around the ground and I’m sure Jon will tell us how many goals he scored for us. But one of my all time favourite players was also playing for us at this time, yes Steve Cooper, what a brave player he was and how many times did he play while suffering real pain in his ankles. This programme also had an article on how boots were made and also footballs, along with a great read The Antiquitites of Football Some interesting names in the sponsors list and a few words on the News Desk page about how a few TUFC louts held up 400 peoples departure from the first game at Bristol, I wonder who they were?

Just a little to add about Dave's fave Steve Cooper... From one of my scrapbbooks.... August 1988. (Notice Mr Impey gets a mention as well) Now, i'm afraid I have a confession to make about Steve Cooper, one that I've held inside for many a year but now, I feel, is the time to come clean. One day back in February 1981, having just had a night out to celebrate my 18th birthday, I was out and about in Torquay town centre, feeling rather fragile, when I decided to go into what was then John Menzies (where WH Smiths then decamped to) and was looking at the magazines on the far wall. At this point the man in front of me took a sudden about turn. Being a little slow on the pegs, due to a raging hangover, I took no avoiding action and allowed the said gentleman to plough straight into me. Our knees met with a quite horrible crunching sound and I saw the wince on his face, the familiar face of our very own Mr Cooper. He said nothing but grimaced as he walked gingerly away. The following friday I read, as usual, the Herald to get an idea of the next days team whereupon it was announced that Steve Cooper would be out for a short time with a 'mysterious leg injury'. Having scored six goals in the previous eight games he was out of the side for some seven games and then on his return didn't manage to score again that season. All I can say is sorry...
