I wonder what happened to the Town Appeal Fund? And was there a particular reason for it being launched?

This was a game which we were confidently expected to win, but Alan Smith had a nightmare in a rare appearance as deputy for George Northcott, and Darlington's pacy forwards had a field day against our somewhat ponderous defence.
It's a shame that the team changes were not inked in on the day, as I'm certain that there were about seven or eight of these in the Darlington team.
Our old friend Ken Furphy played at right half in that game, and it is also interesting to note that Ray Spencer, who later came to us as a wing half, was Darlington's regular centre half in those days.
Over the years, they have been something of a bogey team for us, as I suspect that their wins at Plainmoor outweigh their defeats. Given their present disastrous run of form, I would expect the balance to be redressed this weekend.
