Clearly you were always guaranteed something a little different down at the Classic Continental in South Croydon (in contrast to the tame fare at the Pullman in Thornton Heath).
"Budgie" Byrne playing for the Glaziers (none of that Eagles tosh back then) - he played for England as Third Division player - along with Tony Collins who'd been at Plainmoor in the mid 1950s.
18,000 at Selhurst that Good Friday.
Marvellous. Keep them coming!

Later that season, the Palace goalkeeper Vic Rouse was to become the first 3rd Division player to be capped at full international level when selected against Northern Ireland in the Home International Championship.
Palace had a terrific side in those days. In Torquay's relegation season 1961/62, they also had the ex-WBA and England player Ronnie Allen, and he and Johnny Byrne ran rings around our defence in the opening game of that season at Plainmoor.
Fortunately for United, Mervyn Gill in goal put in the performance of a lifetime, so that the final score of 1-2 in no way reflected Palace's domination in that game.
