Today Paul Buckle picked a team we have been asking for since the start of the season, players playing in their desired position with 2 proper centre backs (Ellis(My motm) & Woods) & with Mansell & Hargreaves back in the midfield. We look solid for the whole game and in my opinion completely dominated Salisbury. What we did lack today was a goal thirsty striker who should be getting on the end of loose balls & taking the gamble.
We did not deserve to lose today but in football you do lose those games sometimes, won't be the 1st time or the last you see a team dominate for 90 Min's for the other team to score with their only chance.
I walked away after the end of the game ashamed to call myself a TUFC fan, not because of Paul Buckle or the players on the pitch but because of those around me giving disgusting abuse aimed at Paul Buckle, OK we lost the game but Paul Buckle was in no way to blame for it, had he kept with the team & playing players out of position from Crawley then yes maybe a few choice words may have been excusable. But not today.
I think on Thursday I will give up my usual spot that I have taken for 28 years since the age of 5 on the popside and go and stand in another part of the ground as I don't want to be among such negative people anymore.
The look of shock on Matt Green's face as he heard all this abuse said it all to me.
I was proud with the team performance today & clapped the team off the pitch knowing they had all given 100% & we cannot ask for more than that.
Anthony

Ant I know it hurts when you have to stand and watch your team that you love and has been such a big part of your life, get booed off. You stood with me for those 28 years and we have had some great times together on the popside.
Fans really did expect a much better start than we have had, while you say we played better and gave 100% teams like this we really should be playing of the park and winning against.
While I'm not the one who started this 12 game thing, I do think, that now we have gone back to playing players in what should be their best positions, I feel that by the time 12 games are up, we will see the team really starting to gel.

Anthony Anthony, I think this is a really fair post mate. I didn't go today, I have only just got in from a festival, but listening on the radio it certainly sounded as if things were very different to the previous few games. Players were (almost) in their proper postitions, we did play some "on the floor" attacking football and certainly given that Salisbury appeared to have only 2 chances in the entire game I think we can count ourselves as very unlucky to have lost. Sure we made mistakes, sure we missed some chances but come on! I have never been overly critical of fans who boo (I have been one and I am sure will be again in the future) but people should really stop and think about what they are booing. Is it the result? Or is it the performance? So to those who booed/ hurled abuse today ask yourselves..............Do you really think it is ok to boo a team that have clearly improved considerably or like the rest of us are you just really frustrated?

We have no right to beat any team in this division! Look at Arsenal at Fulham on sat & Man Utd at home to Newcastle on the opening day, No one club has a right to beat another & thats what makes football the great game it is. The champions of this league will more than likely lose 8 games this season, we are just on our losing run at the start of the season, better to have it now rather like the end of last season. It's always best to play catch up as the team with the late run in normally gets promoted over the team that has set the pace all season.

I'm sorry Anthony, but Paul Buckle was completely to blame for the defeat at the end of the day.
Yes, we dominated long spells of the game, but how many times did we force James Bittner to make a save - NOT ONCE! Yes, we had a couple of efforts deflected wide and yes we missed two sitters, but for an opposition keeper not to have to make a single save all game at home in a game that team dominated is criminal. Two goals in three homes games off less than 10 shots on target - it's just not going to get it done even if the effort was certainly more there than it ever was against Ebbsfleet or for most of the game against Woking.
The team looked much more balanced out there today, with round pegs in round holes, but there are still players out there who are just not earning their wages....if you want me to pick out the names, then Tim Sills, Wayne Carlisle and Chris Hargreaves are No 1, 2 and 3 in that list as much as I hate saying it about the latter at least - he spent most of his day trying to wind up the referee.
Yet, when it comes to making substitutions, what does Buckle do? Takes off our main offensive threat in Carayol and our more effective striker in Dsane. And those moves completely screwed up our shape. Bring Stevens on, sure, but he has to come on on the right hand side where he can attack a full-back on the outside rather than ad infinitum come inside on his right foot against a right-back who will eat him up for breakfast, and where he comes up against tough tackling central midfielders, who just have a field day taking the ball off him.
And where does Salisbury's goal come from? Stevens loses the ball as he drifts in yet again off his LEFT WING, two passes get the ball to the opposite flank and the first decent Salisbury cross of the day ends up with a free header into the back of the net.
Let's not gloss over the fact that Salisbury were absolutely woeful - any half decent side would have murdered them this afternoon - yet through lack of ability we find ourselves on the wrong end of a result again. As things stand at the moment we are just not good enough and the buck stops with the coaching staff.
This officially is the lowest point in the club's history - we are now ranked as the 112th 'best' club in England and on today's evidence we aren't going much higher very soon. York will be a huge test, and while I will not boo the players off if we lose again, I will not clap them should such a result occur.

The buck always has to stop somewhere Andy, the same can be said for a run of poor results, I will make a post later on what I now feel I need to come to terms with.

Anthony No need to worry TUFC these people will soon abandon the club especially if results continue as they are and you will soon be able to watch the match with more silence than boos. It has happened in the past and it will happen again and no doubt if we do go on to turn the corner they will re-appear as if nothing had happened - and probably start moaning and booing again when things aren't quite as perfect as they think they should be! They're usually the ones who say after each defeat " I'm never going again" You've heard them! The Webb era was classic example the few hundred die hard supporters who stuck with it at the time, game after game just used to look so totaly shocked and aghast standing there on the terraces with mouths wide open wth an expression of abject horror, week after week with only so much as the ocaasional "Oh dear Mr Webb that was dreadful - see you next week" in a mumbled and confused west country dialect. You see my point here? Whilst I despise the booing and personal insult these people (I wont say supporters) are vital to the clubs success and unfortunately have to be accepted. The term "real supporter" is often lambasted and taken offence to by some but there is no doubt in my mind that there are " true" or "real" supporters who stick with it through thick and thin, bite there tongue rather than boo, and actually have the intelligence to realise how counter productive it is, and there are others who are fair weather supporters who just tag along when things are going well. Thankfully poor performances on the pitch have there upsides and many of the brain dead will disappear for a while but sadly it will be a true indication of our team and form and if they do happen to disappear for a long time then the club really could be in deep poo. So if I were you do as you have done today, just stand well away from the idiots and do your best to praise that which is praiseworthy and stay silent when its not. That's what I do.

There were some choice words being aimed towards the directors box today as well. They were met by blank faces which is quite right. It's not the boards place to start arguments with disgruntled ill informed fans. Unfortunately a female stood next to Colin Lee decided to have her say and to be honest it was a little pathetic. BUT whilst I agree that the players all gave it more today, I left feeling completely gutted I'd spent nearly forty quid for myself, my wife and son to sit and be bored stiff or 90 minutes. The football is woeful and we didn't look like we'd score if the game was played for another 3 hours. The players gave it their best but we were matched by a poor Salisbury side who hit us with a sucker punch. I felt Dsane should have been subbed earlier than he was and as someone else said, changing Caryloe for Stevens was bizarre. I didn't boo, nor did I clap, I just felt ripped off by the football I'd just had to sit and endure. Really don't know if I'm going to pay again to watch that on Thursday. It's supposed to be entertainment and fun. That today was neither, and it hasn't been like that for some time. The first sub 2000 gate looms on Thursday and THAT is Paul Buckles fault.

Bite me ( no please don't sorry could not resist that) If you feel that way, like I have before in my time, it is sometime best to miss a few games. As you say you have paid good money and wanted entertaining. Missing a few games can have the effect, that you start to miss, what has been a normal part of your life. On the other hand, I know some who felt they would just stay away for a few games, only to realize that doing other things on matchdays, could not only be cheaper, but often more fun. I saved my money today, my wife gets the cash out of the bank, I came down stairs this morning, as she had felt well enough to want to try and go to work for the morning, to find she had left the money downstairs. She had put it there just in case I changed my mind. Its still where she put it, I was sad to not have gone, but seeing the money still on the table, does make me feel a whole lot better.

If it was the incident at the end of the game that you are referring to, then I should point out that the "female stood next to Colin Lee" was in fact Mrs Buckle, who quite reasonably in my opinion, felt the need to respond to a shout of "Buckle Out" by a disgruntled fan (of many, many years standing) which he chose to yell in the direction of the directors box.

It may be difficult to find somewhere in the ground to stand where Buckle is not being abused...suggest you try the family stand - but don't for gawds sake try the enclosure or grandstand!

I think that Crispy makes a good point - there is no need to become "personal" in any disappointment and I would be proud of my wife if she stood up for me in that way!!

You could aways try the away end, then you could at least celebrate with the winning fans ;D sorry that was naughty of me.

Who ever it was I still feel that anyone in the directors box who for what ever reason gets into a slanging match with supporters is not acting with the dignity that maybe people in that position should. I except we are all human and can understand why things were said but it doesn't reflect well on the club as whole and makes things start to look a bit amateurish. Morons shouting things at the board I have no time for and they are best ignored by EVERYONE.
