Ok, so now you have been made the Manager, poor Paul could no longer put up with all the moaning fans.
You know the players at the club, so now you have to turn the season around, pick your squad, your formation and what jobs you want the players to do.
If the thread comes up with some good plans I may just email the whole thread to the club.

Hopefully PB stays for the forseeable future, however if i had to then here are my suggestions;
PB either watches or has all the other teams watched. The club would know how each team plays, their strengths and their weaknesses. Therefore each team would be picked on the basis of their opponents. The biggest mistake PB made against Ebbsfleet was that we played to their strengths and didnt expolit their weaknesses. I would also keep picking the players that are playing well, but more importantly drop those that weren't, rather than hoping that the player will play himself back into form (possibly the reason why Sills hasnt been dropped yet).
My team for Crawley would be; Poke Mansell Todd (if fit) Hodges Nicholson Carlisle Hargreaves Wroe Carayol Green Thompson
Subs; Sills, Stevens, Dsane, Robertson, Brough
I dont like Thompson in Midfield, but he does look to have some flair/ability. If i am correct he has also spent more time playing up front than in Midfield.
Crawley were a big side last year, a bit slow and played more hoof ball than us. My side would give us pace and width. I would TELL* them to play it on the ground, use the wide men, keep them wide, open up the opponents and play the ball through the defence rather than over the top of them. Take the 3 points, watch the re-run of the videos, plan for the next game and pick the side based on the next opponents and our current form.
* We have to assume that PB told the players to play a certain way on Monday night, and they obviously ignored what he said??

Thanks tufc01, now where are all the rest of you managers, you have the chance to take over and put right anything you think is wrong, so lets see how you will sort it.

-Carayol and Thompson on the wings, not pusing inside all the time, and certainly not getting so far up the field WITHOUT THE BALL searching for that elusive Sills flick-on from a full-back punt that it leaves us vulnerable to an opposition counter-attack down the flanks..We have to keep possession better, and not just rely on the killer, impact full-back ball/big forward flick..let the wide men try running with the ball and allow the midfielders to come up and support at a reasonable pace...Also, when midfielders have it in the centre circle DON'T JUST LOFT IT OVER THE DEFENCE. There is no Phillips around to pressure opposition defenders on-the-turn into giving away throw ins..exchange passes with a deep-lying-forward, a winger, anyone, just don't panic and CONCEDE POSSESSION NEEDLESSLY
-Hargreaves out of defence and playing as our ONE holding midfielder..whats the point in having two?
- We have to stop backing off and BLOCK CROSSES..I can't believe how many crosses we are still allowing into dangerous areas..This is a sore point for me after both Exeter play-off legs..
- KEEP AT LEAST ONE MAN UP FOR OPPOSITION CORNERS
- If Nicholson is taking corners, we can't just pile everyone, including the two centre backs into the box..the Ebbsfleet first goal illustrated this.
- Play Carlise in behind Green..Carlise comes inside his full back all the time so play him as a second forward, linking the midfield and attack. He has great technique, a stonking finish, and is good in the air...One of our best moments in the Ebbsfleet match was when Carlise ran across the line and headed the ball through to Benyon, who was narrowly caught off-side..
-Against Crawley, I'd play Robertson and Todd. If Todd's not fit, I'd bring back Woods.. Robertson had a good game against them last year..

Certainly do not think i am a better manager and still have faith in PB but think we need to try something different, maybe a different formation or different players. My team would be......
GK - Poke
RB - Mansell (No real alternative unless Micheal Brough can play this position)
LB - Nicholson (For his set pieces and corners)
CB - Todd (Always first Choice CB for me) - Ellis (The guy has talent but needs time to develop an understanding with Todd) or Robertson
LM - Carayol (At home)/Hodges (Away for his experience)
RM - Carlisle (Replaced by little Danny in 2nd half if not effective)
CM - Hargreaves (Play a holding role and can hopefully gain control of the midfield early on) - Wroe (Hopefully play a creative game!)
CF - Sills (Deserves to be first or second name on the team sheet) - Dsane (Provides a bit of strength and pace)
Subs
Stevens (I feel is effective as an impact sub in 2nd half but to lightweight to make any impression in the game at the start)
Hodges (Cover for LM or LB or GK!)
Robertson (Cover for CB)
Thompson (Cover for Midfield)
Green (Has proved he can score last season)
Tactics - Pass the ball sideways/forward rather than hoofball to the left or right of midfield and play the ball into the box from wide, hopefully this will give us some Sills to attack, we now have wingers so lets use them and if it is not working make some changes.
Or if wanting to switch formation during the game to 4-3-3 push Carlisle up front or 5-3-2 drop Hargreaves back in to defence.
Tell you what this is not easy, still players I would like to have had as an option on the bench but have to say sending Rice to Truro does give another option on the bench and we need it!

Thanks harrogategull & patrickm, lets hope he turns things around, I just wanted to see what members would change ie starting line up formation, training etc, if they found themselves as the manager, having to turn things around with the same squad of players.

If Todd's not fit, I'd bring back Woods.. Robertson had a good game against them last year.. Forgot to mention that one. I agree, you should ALWAYS leave one of your players on the half way line. Danny stevens would be the ideal candidate, never going to win a header from the corner so putting him on the half way line means the opposition are likely to leave 2 defenders back to cover him. If you add their goalkeeper to the equation and the corner taker, that means there can only be a maximum of 7 opponents in our box against our 10, this leaves a man apiece to man mark and a defender on each post, plus the keeper to go get the ball if he feels he can. It also means that if the ball is cleared its possible our guy will be able to chase the ball or put pressure on their guy, not allowing him time to deliver the ball straight back in. This tactic doesn't seem to take the pressure off the defence very quickly and hasn't been seen to set up a quick counter attack. Now PB has done his A licence, is it possible that this is being taught/demonstrated on these courses?? I just do not understand the logic behind it, so perhaps someone could enlighten me

How about this for the Crawley game. Todd is injured so that is why he is not in the team.
GK Poke RB Mansell CB Woods CB Hodges LB Nicho CM Hargreaves (C) CM Adams LW Carayol RW Carlisle FWD Sills FWD Dsane
Thompson and Wroe could both turn out to be fantastic central midfielders this season but, with the strength of our squad I think we should be dropping them when they are failing to perform. If they, or one of them, stay(s) in, immediatley after Ebbsfleet then surley they are being given a message that it does'nt matter how they perfom because they will still get a first team place.
To get the best out of them I think we have to drop them after bad performances and make them compete and work hard to make the team.
Bench for Crawley - Thompson, Green, Wroe, Stevens, Benyon
Another option in the midfield could be Mansell but then that would cause us another RB problem so maybe not.

GK Poke RB Mansell CB Woods CB Hodges LB Nicho CM Hargreaves (C) CM Adams LW Carayol RW Carlisle FWD Sills FWD Dsane In my humble opinion, that's an unbalanced central defence. Neither Woods nor Hodges could be described as "first strike"defenders, more the stand back and cover one of a pair. Therefore I expect to see Robertson or Ellis gain preference over Woods. Woods may get in if Hodges is used elsewhere. Adams has been ill, is his fitness level up to starting yet? Only the management team know this and I wouldn't for a moment expect to see both Wroe and Thompson left out together. It could be that Wroe loses his place before Thompson and there is Brough to be brought into the equation. As I said before, there are three games in six days so ALL the squad Will be vital.
