Well ever since I have been watching football, those in power, have always wanted to play around with the rules.
What was once seen as a fair tackle, could now result in a red card. The offside rule changed so many times, no one knows what it really is anymore.
Goal keepers could only bounce the ball so many times, then take only so many steps, the back pass rule changed and gone are the days when you could knock the keeper in with the ball and it would be a goal. You can't go near them now.
The biggest rule change may have been the points awarded for a win. It was two for a win and one for a draw. So you never heard then what you hear today, all this two points dropped talk.
In fact it was felt the way to get promotion was to win your home games and draw your away games.I believe like many rule changes, it was done to encourage teams to always try and play for the win. Having a bigger points gap between winning and drawing, should make teams, only really try to get all three points.
Does it really work? well I'm not so sure, how many times do we watch games, where away teams, set up the team, to play for a draw. So should we just go back to the old system, those 90 Min's goals we seem to concede, would not seem so costly, as they do now.

When the BSP was sponsored by Gola back in mid eighties, they had the system of 2 points for a home win, 3 for an away. Only lasted one, maybe two, seasons though

Does anyone else remember how it worked out, what the fans/clubs thought of it? Not sure if I am a fan but there is something to be said for rewarding a team who win away from home. Hello from sunny Nerja, temp is mid 30´s (a bit cloudy today!!) pretty much wall to wall sunshine though. I have read what I can about the histon game, seems a shame we let in a late one, but these things even themselves out. If we are good enough. see ya
