Can't be the same Don Hutchison I've met!! A few years ago, I ventured over to West Ham's training ground at Chadwell Heath to get a few autographs. It was half term and the place was absolutely rammed with parents and kids also there for the same reason. The idea was that the WHU squad would do a bit of light training and then come back in to sign things for the public. Everything was going well - David James was particularly accomodating - signing everything in sight and even discussing computer games in depth with the youngsters, as he had been on the sidelines for quite a while following an injury sustained, playing for England v Holland at White Hart Lane. Players were signing stuff, going in to get showered and changed, and then coming back out to sign more autographs. All that was EXCEPT Don Hutchison. As he jogged in towards the changing facilities, he announced that he would "be out soon" to sign for the kids. HOW WRONG HE WAS. Instead of keeping his word, he attempted to leave via a back door in order to avoid the fans - and made straight for his car for a quick exit. As he approached the gates, with his window down, I reminded him of his claim of "loving the West Ham fans" and of his £30K / week wages that they contributed to. I also berated him for not even having the decency to stay back for a few minutes or so to sign for the waiting mums and dads with their kids. But the best bit was when I called him a "selfish, money - grabbing Jock w***er" !! YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE SHOCK AND EMBARRASSMENT ON HIS FACE - IT WAS ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!! He KNEW that he was in the wrong that day. Needless to say, "Mr Budweiser Label" has NEVER been - and NEVER WILL BE respected in this household.......besides, he wasn't that good a player at West Ham anyway.
