Many may remember the events at Plainmoor, one fateful Saturday night. We played W.H.Wanderers and Torbay was nearly wrecked.
The club banned all away supporters and Torquay fans had to get an I.D.card from the club, to go to the games.
Why I still carry mine I don't know, I do look young on it maybe thats the reason. ;D ;D
My Number was 0414.
Do you still have yours.

I actually stopped watching home games for a time as I did not (and still do not) agree with the principle of banning fans in the general sense. I've been in some rough situations at football matches, particularly during the seventies and early eighties, but I have never agreed that we should enforce a rule that may prevent a genuine law abiding football fan from attending a game

That night of the game I had won a competition from the H.E so myself and a very much smaller TUAFC1 were sat in the main grandstand and not on the Pop side. Still remember the chants to the police in games after that one. where were you at Wander ers, as they were grabbing hold of one of our famous fans and not liked by all Mr bell ringer himself.

Just what did Wolves do to the town ? being a young whipper snapper I don't know about much about it aside from odd whispers about them going a little mental ?
Any chance of scanning it in ? personal information obviously obscured, I'd be quite interested in seeing what it looked like, I can't imagine something like that in this day and age, it'd destroy what little of a fanbase we currently have.

Have a go at doing tomorrow and i will give my report of the day they came to town, also tomorrow, but we went up there very soon afterwards and for the first time ever I was a little scared. It all went OK, but was sure glad to get back on the coach.

Before that day and night, we enjoyed Saturday Night kick-offs, I know many S.D.L footballers loved if, as they could play in the afternoon, go for a pint and then up To Plainmoor. Not sure(someone will know) if that pushed up the gate or not, the only thing was ,we never appeared on the pools coupons(do people still do the pools) I was not in the town center that day, but I understand they ran wild, stealing paint cans etc leaving their marks everywhere, and scaring most of the shoppers. I don't think I have got this mixed up with another game, at the start our lads were warming up, some of their fans came onto the pitch, took the balls of the players and started having a kick around. They invaded the pitch during the game at least three times and I'm sure I remember, that as one of our players was going down the wing, he was tripped by a Wolves fan. I;m sure someone will confirm this and even come up with his name.

The 92ndfish. you wanted to see what the ID cards were like. This is mine(changed photo) It was so strange that Season having the away end completely empty. I know there has and will be again, matches when the away end is empty, but not every game. If you did not have you card, you simply could not get into the ground

It is really wierd but don't remember having a card with my photo on?
I am sure my card was dark blue. Strange days they were. I remember being stopped 3 times by the police leading up to the ground the next time we played Wolves. If I am right we had to take a utility bill (or the like) to prove locality.
So for one game I had 1) ticket 2) utility bill 3) membership card.
Does anyone else remember this? Or have I gone mad?
Even Glasto was easier to get into then that!

It was Phil King that got tripped up as he ran down the touchline, had a lucky escape being in the grandstand that night as before stewards I would always sit on the fence on the popside. Bring back the away dugouts to the popside please, I have fond memories of Ian Bowyer(We know where his son gets it from) trying to punch my old man after a game once.

Thanks Ant for the memories, I had wound him up big time, as he stood by the dugout. As you say it was fun when they moved the dug outs over to the Popside. Boy was he angry, he wanted to kill me, took a few swings as I was leaving, as then the changing rooms were in the family stand. So he was pitch side me walking the path to the steps. Its a good job he missed, as I would have had to lay him out. ;D ;D ;D

I recall going to a game in those days and passing a bunch of National Front thugs peddling hateful racist literature on the approach to the ground totally ignored by the police. I got to the turnstiles and two policemen were giving the third degree to a nice innocent looking grandad who had turned up without an ID card.
I asked the coppers if they wouldn't be better employed sorting out the real problem around the corner, but they didn't care. I can remember thinking the world had gone mad!

If you did not have you card, you simply could not get into the ground IIRC you could still get into the ground, but you had to go into the office under the grandstand to sign someone in. I was under 16 or 18 or whatever the age was at the time, but we occaisionally took guests and signed them in. I can also recall some Carlisle UNited fans making the trip down (we won 1-0 witha penalty just before half time, I think) and someone singed them in because otherwise they wouldnt' have been allowed in. In one of the last few weeks of the away ssupporters ban, about 100 or so Exeter fans turned-up and they eventually put them in the "away end". Lovely bunch of fans - they really covered themselves with glory when some of them were singing through the minutes silence for Hillsborough, which happend only a week or so before.

Did you still require a card at that age, if so did you have one and the real question have you still got it

No, I was too young to need one - 12 by the time they finished in 1989. I think I saw my Dad's one the other day though!!!
That old away end looked a bit like a POW camp! The only time that we saw away fans in there was for the FA Cup, the play-off final against Swansea and the WOlves match when Bull scored twice in front of them late-on to win the 1st match 2-1.
I can't really remember much football prior to the 87/88 season, although did go to matches from 1982. Great to see the old film footage that was posted on .net the other day - the old popside takes me back - a very noisey and intimodating atmosphere as the old Scunny Manager (Mick Buxton?? - managed us for 1 game after O'Riordan left just before May took over) once said.
I thin that is one thing that I could never complain about this season in the conference - decent and agro-free supporters who follow their clubs. Forest-Green and Aldershot were 2 great away visits for me - they summed-up what being a football fan should be about - a warm welcome from the staff, decent bar facilities and we managed to get at least one decent result!!

You will have to get to see it again, maybe you could post the number, I don't really know how many were given out. The days of the old popside and when you could stand up against the pitch fence. he was a great player that Steve Bull, aways was the one to score against us. Yes we have had some warm welcomes at some grounds, but lets hope its our last season, doing the rounds in the BSP
