In making a belated (much belated) welcome to Brett to this site, I want to let all you "hoppers" out there of the most wonderful book I have in my possession and it's called "Engineering Archie"Published by English Heritage and written by Simon Inglis it catalogues the career of the legendary Archibald Leitch - football ground designer and architect who was the catalyst for major stadium building in this country. The book sells at £14.99 and should be available from all good book shops but especially Sports Pages of London and Manchester. Leitch - he of the the trademark gable and cross strut panelling so evident at such famous old grounds as Goodison Park, Ibrox and Roker; was also the brains behind famous old twin purpose arenas like Bramall Lane (where the spectaors once watched some fifty yards from the action on one side of the ground!), and Park Avenue (Bradford) and Headingly where top class cricket and football existed either side of one two sided grandstand each with their own football and cricket grounds built into the equation. Supplemented by some truly fabulous photography, this book will become a treasure to whoever procures a copy

Also. It was Simon Inglis who really got me fascinated with football stadiums. I remember going into Newton Abbot's WH Smith to spend a few minutes leafing through his Football Grounds of Europe book. I could never afford the bugger though!
